Will this be possible???

I can i get/buy a 90 cm Satellite dish outside in the market, Will the D2H people install the LNB to it and make the rest of the installation? if this could happen then it would be very good, i would get a very good signal and quality strength.

Did anyone thought of this or have tried it?

Regards,
Nandakumar

I dont think this is possible because-

1) There will be warranty issues.
2) There will be hardware compatibility issues.
3) From common sense point of view, if a larger dish is required then I see no reason why videocon won't provide it in the first place. They can give an option to the customer to select a larger dish and charge accordingly if the customer wants a larger dish. Also, if you think the other way then Videocon can simply throw the large dish for all connections and jack the prices. They are doing neither of these, so I think that whatever size they are offering should be sufficient to serve the purpose.

Of course, there is always DIY, but then points 1) and 2) come into picture for that.

Dost, Open Market Satellite Dish is easy available in Southern India , but rarely in place like Mumbai. Lets other share their feedback, else you can directly contact with d2h team and let us know abt this. Its a superb Idea. In that case you can buy larger dish too may be of 120 cm.

I think 120 cm is going too far! 90cm dish also looks jumbo jet. I wud be able to read the inscription "D2h HD" on the dish, if i was sitting in an airplane passing over my building! :D (I guess thats too much of exaggeration though!)

Folks, have you set your STB display setting to 720p or 1080i? Does the D2H HD STB have a setting where by I can keep the setting to 720p always?

1080i, with 50Hz. Its giving a bit awkward results at 60 Hz, so i am staying at 50 only.

I dont remember if we have 720p.....but if we do have, u just have to select it. And it stays that way!

@npat,

i doubt this, its like saying you cant use an external monitor to your Dell CPU, the only main thing which they need is the LNB (Feedhorn), the dish is just a receiver of electro magnetic waves. check below. The Dish has nothing to do with the warranty or Harware compatibility issues. for crying out loud, its just a Dish and nothing is there in it other than a metal piece bent to a parabolic shape.

"The parabolic shape of a dish reflects the signal to the dish’s focal point. Mounted on brackets at the dish's focal point is a device called a feedhorn. " (courtesy : Wikipedia Satellite dish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

@IM - yes, here in Chennai there is a electronic market where i have seen lots of dishes available for sale. i dont know whether i can talk to the D2H team straight away but i will give it a try by calling their customer care tomorrow from office [i can kill sometime by doing this]. if everything goes good and cost of the dish isnt that big then i'm going to go for 90 cm dish for the HD connection (if and only they bring me 60/63 cm dish)

@Jaymin - you are right, mounting 120 cm dish would look like a small roof on the building :), i would go for 90 cm dish itself.

Do anyone know the Signal checking meter name? i would also like to buy one of those, instead the D2H guys refuse to put 90 cm then i will buy one and do the alignment myself :)

There are rumors that the will be a special offer for Diwali so going to wait till that time to book by D2H, also there is no one at home to watch and i dont want to waste the first month platinum free offer also :) (so Greedy:))

Ok, if we can set it to 720p then there should be an improvement in PQ compared to 1080i. Looks like I need to wait till I get my STB.

Yes we can, it have options from 576p to 1080p and one can permanently keep these settings.
