Videocon D2H DTH Customer Experience

It actually makes a lot of difference in PQ. Yesterday when Sony Service Centre guy changed the HDMI port for DVR, So PQ went to default setting. Although HD Channels were looking more brighter and clear, but pixellation started in SD Channels, but when I calibrated the settings, All SD and HD chanels started looking stunning.

If someone wish, I can share my Sony Bravia Calibration settings here. :)

When you say "Sony Service Centre guy changed the HDMI port for DVR" what does it mean? Does it mean that he plugged the incoming HDMI from the DVR to a different HDMI-IN of your television, assuming that the TV has atleast 4 HDMI-In ports?

Also, if what I assumed above is correct, then why should the Picture Quality change just by changing the HDMI-In Port? If I recall correctly, the settings in my LG LED revert to original only if I opt for the Factory Reset option in the MENU.

Yes dude, you are rite. LED is having 4 HDMI Port. 1 on the side Panel and rest 3 on back panel. Earlier it was connected on Left Side of Panel, but recently I bought Blu Ray Player . So contacted Sony Service Centre bcoz mine LED is wall mounted and I don't know how to unmount it. So engineer visited yesterday and I asked him to commect HD DVR as well as BD Player both on back panel so that left panel HDMI port could be freed and I can use it to connect my Mobile or any other HMDI device in future. For each HDMI, Sony Bravia have separate Picture Setting which is default factory setting setting. So, each Port PQ Settings need to be configured separately.

Thanks for the reply. Your 2nd para cleared the doubt.

If you can let me know, does Discovery HD, Nat Geo HD, Animal Planet, TLC, Travel XP HD, etc. have dual audio (English, Hindi) or only English? I know that these channels have Dual Audio in SD connection, but do they have the same in HD as well?

Also, do I get the Discovery SD, Nat Geo SD, Star Movies SD, Movies Now SD, Star Gold SD, etc. despite having all the corresponding HD channels? How often do programs get repeated on HD channels?

Discovery SD, Net Geo SD have multiple Language feed. Now a days they have english, hindi, tamil, telgu and even bangla feeds, but at present HD Channels have only one feed which is english.Yes, you will get all SD Channels also in Paltinum HD Pack bcoz Programmes telecated on both the Channels are different. Star Plus HD, Movies Now HD and Star Movies HD telecast almost same programmes on HD and SD, but rest all have different programmes. Programme repetition is normal like SD Channels.

About that sharing the settings for TV, i think u can start a thread named something like "Optimal Setting for TVs". Where whichever TV a person is using, he can post the settings of that TV. In that way we will have a collection of settings.

Guys, I finally placed my order for Videocon D2H today afternoon. I have booked a Zapper box (non-DVR) since I was venturing into an unknown territory and hence, wanted the risks to be minimum. Also, I have decided not to go in for Annual Packs and instead, recharge PlatinumHD pack every month.I have asked for the installation on Saturday, September 17, between 09:00 and 14:00 hours since my Tata Sky will last till September 16.Total cost breakup is as follows:2690/- Cost of HD STB and Installation Chargesless 400/- Cash back in account within 15 daysless 441/- One month Platinum HD pack freeSo the effective cost for the hardware was 1849/-The person whom I spoke to was quite knowledgeable and was able to answer all of my queries convincingly (that is my personal opinion and I have no reasons to question his credibility and ability till I experience something similar on those lines)He also said that I need not worry about the Dish size since the Dish will come labelled as either HD or SD and hence, there is no chance of being misinformed / cheated. He also said that the STB package will contain all the wires, i.e. HDMI, Component, etc. There are no charges for a break in connection if you are on a vacation. The minimum period should be a month and the max period is 6 months.Relocation Charges are 150/- to 200/- , though I would assume it's 200/- to be on the safer side.I hope I covered everything as far as the pre-booking part is concerned.I plan to start a separate thread of my own once my encounters with D2H begins.

Ok, fine enough! Do share ur experience later on, when u get ur connection! And yeah, just to clarify a misconception - HD Zapper box comes with 65 cm dish, and not 90 cm one. 1 of the fellow members Ashish Sahu is using HD Zapper & he has 65 cm dish. I think its too late to inform now!

Thanks Jaymin for the info. I just modified / updated my post to reflect other information. Also, I don't plan to lose sleep over higher Dish dimensions since monsoon is coming to an end anyways, I don't have an option of a larger dish for HD (non DVR) and also because having used Tata Sky SD for 3 years I am sure whatever I get this time will be atleast one notch higher, if not two. Once I am satisfied with the service I will plan for an upgrade sometime next year.
