Here is my Saga of Videocon d2h.
I have been a d2h user for close to 10 months when I decided that I should upgrade to HD DVR box. D2h was chosen over other operators for the channel options and that it gives HDMI as connectivity option.
The best part:
Booking d2h was the simplest. All I had to do was buy it online and received call from customer care saying that the installation will happen in 2 days. happy. 15-03-2011. Someone came from D2h and gave a starter kit the next day and informed that installation will be done on the 17-03-2011. This is for an installation in Hyderabad
Now starts the Struggle:
d2h guys disappeared altogether for the next 10 days. I had to make multiple calls to all the numbers listed for d2h all over India just to have some engineer come and install. Finally on 26-03-2011 the installation was done. My parents were happy that the issue was resolved.
As I stay in Pune, I went home on 01-03-2011 to watch the World cup final. And I wanted to record that match. To my horror on 1-04-2011 when I was testing the DVR service I realized that it is not activated. I called the engineer who installed the product. They informed that it will be done in a hour. After that was not resolved I call the customer car who said they will look into the matter. Apart from DVR, I also realized that they did not configure 5.1 surround, the delay in changing channels is horrible, startup time was close to 3 minutes and the remote was functioning erratically. The engineer came and resolved the 5.1 issue but the rest of the issues were still pending. I was informed that Videocon is providing a software update and everything will be resolved.
I gave them 5 days
windows and on 07-04-2011 called and informed the CC again by phone and email about the above pending issues. The engineer came promptly, replaced the remote and went away. But then the condition of the box became even worse. IT started crashing whenever it was switched on. Raised another complaint with d2h CC. This time the service was so worst that no engineer came for another 10 days leaving me stuck with a useless box. Finally after threating them that they have to refund me the whole amount on 16-04-2011 (I made a mistake of taking 6 month plan when they replaced the remote. my bad), they came to resolve the issue on 18-04-2011.
The worst part:
They informed that HDMI cable will not work and we have to watch it in AV mode. and they informed that a software update needs to happen and left after removing the HDMI cable. Last weekend I went home again and was shocked to see the solution that they have given. The
TV is dead slow. Audio keeps breaking and it takes forever to change channels. DVR service finally got activated but the speed at which the response takes place I am not sure if it is even functioning properly. When I had a word with the Hyderabad technician, they informed that until a software update happens they cannot do anything more. and this May happen by the end of April. They are not even sure if it will happen. Without HDMI the settop box channel quality is shit.
So the saga still continues. Hope it is updated if not I will just scrap that and pick a
Tata Sky(I can live without Ten Action+ but cannot ask my parents to not to watch TV at all). The cost of Rs 7500 is a dead investment and the time spent talking to the customer care is lost forever.
As a customer what does d2h expect me to do. Seeing how some of them here have their issues resolved, I am hoping mine also gets
