Videocon D2H HD DVR User Experience and Review

^^^ quite a bad time fr u. while browsing this forums i hav found that d2h had a rather good CC experience but u seem to be unlucky.How was ur experience with the SD box? AV pic quality, changing time ..other issues? i ws thinking of buying one.:bomb:

SD experience is fine. I am using one in Pune and used one in Mumbai as well. The channel changing time is slow except for that no issues in general. But HD experience is the complete opposite. CC is sad. I was expecting HD to be better as it is the premium service

Here is my Saga of Videocon d2h.

I have been a d2h user for close to 10 months when I decided that I should upgrade to HD DVR box. D2h was chosen over other operators for the channel options and that it gives HDMI as connectivity option.

The best part:
Booking d2h was the simplest. All I had to do was buy it online and received call from customer care saying that the installation will happen in 2 days. happy. 15-03-2011. Someone came from D2h and gave a starter kit the next day and informed that installation will be done on the 17-03-2011. This is for an installation in Hyderabad

Now starts the Struggle:
d2h guys disappeared altogether for the next 10 days. I had to make multiple calls to all the numbers listed for d2h all over India just to have some engineer come and install. Finally on 26-03-2011 the installation was done. My parents were happy that the issue was resolved.

As I stay in Pune, I went home on 01-03-2011 to watch the World cup final. And I wanted to record that match. To my horror on 1-04-2011 when I was testing the DVR service I realized that it is not activated. I called the engineer who installed the product. They informed that it will be done in a hour. After that was not resolved I call the customer car who said they will look into the matter. Apart from DVR, I also realized that they did not configure 5.1 surround, the delay in changing channels is horrible, startup time was close to 3 minutes and the remote was functioning erratically. The engineer came and resolved the 5.1 issue but the rest of the issues were still pending. I was informed that Videocon is providing a software update and everything will be resolved.

I gave them 5 days windows and on 07-04-2011 called and informed the CC again by phone and email about the above pending issues. The engineer came promptly, replaced the remote and went away. But then the condition of the box became even worse. IT started crashing whenever it was switched on. Raised another complaint with d2h CC. This time the service was so worst that no engineer came for another 10 days leaving me stuck with a useless box. Finally after threating them that they have to refund me the whole amount on 16-04-2011 (I made a mistake of taking 6 month plan when they replaced the remote. my bad), they came to resolve the issue on 18-04-2011.

The worst part:
They informed that HDMI cable will not work and we have to watch it in AV mode. and they informed that a software update needs to happen and left after removing the HDMI cable. Last weekend I went home again and was shocked to see the solution that they have given. The TV is dead slow. Audio keeps breaking and it takes forever to change channels. DVR service finally got activated but the speed at which the response takes place I am not sure if it is even functioning properly. When I had a word with the Hyderabad technician, they informed that until a software update happens they cannot do anything more. and this May happen by the end of April. They are not even sure if it will happen. Without HDMI the settop box channel quality is shit.

So the saga still continues. Hope it is updated if not I will just scrap that and pick a Tata Sky(I can live without Ten Action+ but cannot ask my parents to not to watch TV at all). The cost of Rs 7500 is a dead investment and the time spent talking to the customer care is lost forever.

As a customer what does d2h expect me to do. Seeing how some of them here have their issues resolved, I am hoping mine also gets

Is there a way I can push for the software update.

mate, ur issue looks grave.....why dont u post this in another thread where their CC guy is quite active??

Still, i have a few email ids, u contact at those ids, & hope that it gets solved. U r too unlucky for getting this type of service.......coz generally D2h is known for good Customer Support.....

Apart from this, if u had gone thru the thread, then u wud have come across my posts, where i had mentioned similar sort of issues.....

To start with, DVR wasnt active, Picture was jagging, Remote was troubling.......but then their engineer was constantly in touch with me, and solved my issues smoothly.

And that Software update was needed by me too. It always happens via satellite. So we have to wait for their schedule to run. Even they cant do anything. But yes, it was a comprehensive update & all problems vanished with it.

The only negative i see with the experience is that Remote is still very hard. The SD remote was perfect. This one is its opposite. But i have got used to it now.

Ur HD DVR is in Hyderabd, and its a major city. I think they should be able to serve u.......do contact on those emails.
 
Thanks for the contacts jaymin. I will contact them. I have been waiting for the software updates for more than a month now. Also not able to use the HDMI port is what is irritating the most. The remote is quite hard. It irritates me that they do not have an option to push software to customers independently.
 
A month's time is too long. May be u wud be missing out on it due to STB being switched off from Mains.....i think the technician shud have told u, or may be ur parents to keep it on.

Another thing - HDMI has to work. If it doesnt, & the Technician tells u that A/V mode will only work, then he is again running away from his responsibility to rectify the issue. HDMI is working perfectly for me.

In short prima facie this looks like that the technician is lazy, and wants to finish things by shorter/easier methods.

yes, Remote issue is a genuine one. I mean, everywhere i have heard that the quality is this only......

And about that pushing of update independantly.....i think its the shortcoming of the DTH tech, if i am not wrong. Just recently i read about Airtel & TS that u can defer the update manually, but that is not advisable. So i think we can spare the cos. for inherent limitations of the tech.....

I will just scrap that and pick a Tata Sky(I can live without Ten Action+ but cannot ask my parents to not to watch TV at all).
Ten Action+ is now available with Tata Sky.....
 
I think Vineet will become the only user on IBF, who will have More no. of Likes against his name, than the No. of Posts against his name!!
