What??? Isnt Airtel offering 128kbps connection these days?Why is that...Unfair play

Sure, they won't force you to change. Was just saying, i feel that 128 unlimited will get slower after Aug unless a new player emerges that offers similar benefits. It will be still be unlmited but your total throughput will decrease as a result. And they will come up with excellent excuses to justify it.

Of course Airtel might very likely just discontinue the 128 unlimited after a certain date (to be determined).

Am speaking of my experience with my ISP here. Does not mean it will happen with Airtel.

seems we're going downhill rather than the uphill way...it should be like more ISPs should offer unlimited plans, but the scene here is totally different... :huh:

I've a 128kbps ADSL unlimited package which I got last year in June.During that time I believe there was no BSNL nor reliance nor any other company in the market selling a unlimited package for home users,atleast they werent in my HomeTown.
There is no question of changing/removing the unlimited packages just because BSNL or some other ISP does something similar.Afaik Airtel is doing pretty good business in my area.
Though some of their technical representatives suck.Pretty quick service.Another thing I'd like to share is their customer support always send me a SMS & a email if there is a downtime near the corner.Btw downtime has only happened twice.

Heh...for some reason i (also) forgot about the post from above thread. That is what unlimited means and speed is UPTO 128.

Quick calculation gives.

12 hrs at 64kb/s + 12hrs at 80-100kb/s
or 200Mb + 300Mb (assuming 96kbs avg) == 500MB/day or approx 15Gb/month (give or take 1-2GB)

On talking to the Airtel call center, i was told that they guarantee 80kbs which works out to 510 Mb/day but gives a similar monthly download.

this is what i could expect with a *REAL* 64k connection if i could get my ISP to agree to it, but quotas (400Mb/day) would come into the equation.

So much for 128k, still dbl what i have currently for Rs.100/month more, have yet to figure out the cost of buying a router as i'm not keen on renting thier crap ethernet one. I can't use USB since i was told they are only USB2 capable, (not sure if this accurate)

Would the above estimates be close to what users on the Airtel 128k unlimited(sic) experience ?

I am at chennai.
dated 29-06-05.

I am using airtel ISP for the last 2 years.

I was using the scheme Rs.995/- pm in which they allowed me the limit of
1.25gb download/upload , both put together along with 200 pulses free for the landline.

they had their website http://south.touchtelindia.net where in I can see my total usage for any given period.

now I am using the new scheme 256kbps unlimited no free pulses for the telephone line. for using the internet i will be billed rs.500 pm. by unlimited they meant and mean till 31st Aug 05, i will not be billed more than rs.500 whatever may be my downloaded /uploaded data.,

I am unable to catch your point about the inability of airtel cc to answer your question.

for any normal domestic user - 3GB per month is more than sufficient.
