OMG so much jiggery pokery to take a backup while shifting to a new phone. And there are people saying trying to teach older people to shift to secret chat on Telegram is difficult :oops:

So basically, all the backup file has to be on Internal storage. For all purposes of backup, move to SD card or wherever but to restore it move your old file back to internal storage..

@ch@ndlerbing But one question.. I believe both the backup file names will be same. Won't it over write when you move old file to new file??

I guess I ternal storage seems more secure or for those who don't have memory card. So yes, it is similar to whatsapp.

The process is as follows:

1. Enable backup on your current/old phone and write down the 30-digit code.
2. Make sure it's made a backup. Should be easy to see as it lists the latest backup. By default this will also be in a folder named "Signal" on internal storage.
3. Copy over the entire folder to your new phone internal storage.
4. Install Signal and it will see the backup on first launch and ask you for the 30-digit code.
5. Once restored it will continue with the standard number registration process.

Yeah this message restore process is very complicated for a normal average user. Whatsapp gives you option to restore from Gdrive. This feature is definitely needed in Signal and few UI changes.
