@RKhan21 you are 100% correct. Ping of vdsl was similar to fiber in airtel when i used that. No difference in surfing speed.

@Kyle Crane thats what i am trying to say is higher speed is only beneficial for downloading and nothing else. So download can include icloud backups.

Today’s gen z kids are unable to understand that.

just buy bandwidth as much as required for your setup. my kolkata homelab has two isps loadbalanced for around 1.2 gbps bandwidth whereas in my apartment i use the most bog down cheapest hathway connection 30mbps for 400 rs. Now is 30mbps be considered as broadband in the big 2025 that is the question.

unless you lot of streaming and download 40-100 mbps for 4 people is enough add 25- 50 mbps per person for overhead and reduced lagging.

you can always leave a game on download and finish other things

This wasn’t the point of discussion at all ,china which has as the same population like us ,has a much faster avg broadband speed

Atleast 150mbps broadband should’ve become the norm by now

Why china? Because they have the same population as India.

China's Avg Download speeds are 4x faster than India's avg downloading speed, 5G did help in boosting mobile data speeds in India but no one looked at broadband speeds being stagnant

Maybe you got your answer now to the question "Why FTTH speeds are not growing" It's because we really don't need it I guess, atleast that is what everyone kept saying in the thread. Only a fraction of IBF enthusiasts go for higher speed plans as mentioned by @Chip . Major portion of IBF members are on 100-300 Mbps plans. You can always get a faster broadband, there are plenty of options available.

If you are expecting 1 Gbps plan to come down to 2000 a month, I think ACT offers that in some cities and maybe IBF's favourite ISP Excitel will hopefully launch something even cheaper than that, after reading this thread. If you think that is going to help "FTTH speeds grow" then I don't think so. It is always going to come down to need basis, we Indians always care about value for money proposition. Higher speeds doesn't mean better internet experience, it only helps you upload/download things faster. With the OTT bundle with ISPs, majority people aren't downloading torrents anymore.
Yes majority of them are "ideal Airtel customers".
I would rather invest in a good router that provides good range throughout the house so that internet is reachable in the corners of the house. The current cheap chinese ONTs supplied with major ISPs is trash.

China has restrictive internet. Mostly they have just intranet speeds ie localised content and servers. Even if there speed is 4x of india then also it doesn’t matter. They have heavy censorship

high speed broadband does not have a large base in India just like not everybody will buy a Benz when a alto or santro will do the job, the market is limited but growing but slowly only top 5% i feel and indian consumer is very price sensitive.
