I have suggested to tweak TTL [ time to live ] setting using any TCP/IP SW like Dr.TCP. Hope that's the remedy...Also, he's not getting disconnected when wired LAN is used, is there something wrong with wireless LAN settings ?Tunkai, As for returning the modem, call up local broadband cell and ask them what can be done... And a new device means a fresh configuration...:D

About procedure for returning the modem :You have to go to your nearest telephone exchange and submit an application with last month's bill (photocopy) and hand over the device. The Rs 500 that is toward caution deposit will be forfeited though  Also,The D-Link ADSL router is not available in the local market yet.I have got info for another model - Netgear dg834gsq which has all the features as in Dlink plus firewall/SPI built in. It costs approx Rs 6800.I will try this out in next week or so & will share my experiences.Thanks.... B) Tunkai

Mr TunkaiThe Netgear which u got, does it have warranty etc attached to it.D-Link products are available if u speak to the Co office in ur city. They will guide you.Do share ur experience with Netgear after a week of use. Thanks

From where - Eastern Logica ( or whatever the name of the outlet on GC Avenue is under which Eastern Commet has its store ).They are wholesalers and stockists for almost all items of all cos connected to PCs.When I wrote to D-Link then Nirmal Ghosh mailed me back instead of D Link themselves.

Today I got the Netgear Wireless router. :D Cost is Rs 6600 + 4% VAT. Seems reasonable as the US price that I checked in the Netgear site is $160 for the same model in US.The installation was just "BREEZE"I practically didn't have to do anything other than plugging in the wires....the setup wizrd took 5 mins to detect the ISP settings and was ready to go...you don't have to use the PPoE dial-up anymore as the router keeps all the info for you. After wired-test, I switched on my WiFi on my laptop....and just connected to the accesspoint..it picked up the Netgear neatly and I checked the signal strength across my house...never dropped below 50% (which is good!)So far so good..will update in a week's time with my experience with returning the BSNL modem. Also, I checked with the D-Link office they don't have the Wireless router model at this time in Kolkata and didn't offer me to get it from Goa !
