Hi Guys, I know there are plenty of ways to reboot the D-Link modem from the PC ( using a script, or using bridge mode with a scheduler). But I have another problem here. I have a Buffalo wireless router G 125 that sits between the D-Link modem and my pc. Thus I cant access the modem from the pc. Earlier when I didnt have the buffalo router, I just used my task scheduler to disconnect the connection in bridge mode at 7.50 am. I never had problems with the data cap then. But now, even if my pc shuts down at 7.50, my router does not, and thus the connection is kept active! Look at the monthly usage stats.

Look at the red boxed entries. There is now way that I woke up at at 8 am and switched on my pc to use 168 mb between 8 am and 9.27 am on 28/7 or 86 mb on 30/7 !!!!

Any suggestions guys? Is there a script to reboot the router? Also notice the exact 6 hour difference between log in and log out. I guess its an automated MTNL thing!!
Thanks in advance!!

anybody?????

I am sure many of you are using wireless routers at home, how do you cope with this problem.... anybody?????

The mtnl adsl router has both an USB port and a rj45 port. I have connected the USB port to my main server and the rj45 port to the wireless router. The configuration instructions for this are available even on this forum or you can google for the same. You can then use the mtnl router in bridge mode and use a script + scheduler combination to connect / disconnect. Works well for me.Other advantage is that the main server does not have to remain on for other computers on the wireless network to get internet access. You need to only switch on the mtnl modem and the wireless router. However, I have noticed that I need to switch the modem on and off a couple of times to establish wireless internet access with networked computers Dont know why.

I switched out of the NU plan last year, but when i was on the NU plan, I used to use AutoIT. Do you use the modem or the router for pppoe? I used the wireless router for pppoe and put the modem in bridge mode, so i created a script to disconnect and reconnect a couple of times before and after midnight, and before and after 8am.

I am using the modem in bridge mode and the router for pppoe with DHCP disabled. I downloaded AutoIT, but dont know much about writing a script. Can you help me out on that Sid? Thanks.

sure...basically you need task scheduler to make the script run at specific times. i'll email you the file, just pm me ur email. you will have to edit the script to suit your wireless router. what router u using?

I have the Buffalo G 125 ( the hi speed version of the WHR G54S). I was playing with action recording macros, and I was able to set up a macro with a task scheduler to automate the reboot. However I think a proper script is way safer!!
