Sorry for the late response, but for some reason could not access IBF, just switched over to OpenDNS an voila
wats ur budget?? m currently using a
D-Link dir-615 flashed with DD-WRT( only wifi). (sterlite sam300ax
adsl modem seperately). the dlink default firmware sucks but with dd-wrt its rock solid.
Budget is up to Rs. 5000, was looking at
Apple's Airport. Suddenly becoming a bit of an Apple fan. The main problem is wifi range, So should I even be looking at a new
router or invest in a repeater as MTNL's router works flawlessly.
Hi,
Ya excalty whats your budget?? Good stuff come at a cost let us know so that we can help you better.
I am using WR1043ND
TP-Link flashed Open wrt with sterlite sam300ax adsl modem
Budget again is Rs.5000. Be aware that there are several walls that are pretty thick in my house.
Netgear DGN1000 for Rs. 3000, Netgear DGND3300 for Rs. 9000
I own boh and they seem to be decent
Again, range is my only criteria. Both models seem to be adequate at best according to reviews.
try
ebay. just bought this router from ebay and its working fine with my mtnl broadband connection in thane / mumbai. seller shipped me refurbished item but its working fine.
UTSTAR 4 Port Wireless ADSL2+ Modem & Router
UTSTAR WA3002G4 Type 2 Wi-Fi Modem
eBay India: UTSTAR 4 Port Wireless ADSL2+ Modem & Router (item 260773990219 end time 29-Apr-2011 11:01:25 IST)
here are my speeds.

Seems a bit steep for those models, again my current router works excellent.
Why do I get the feeling u got screwed here... This model seems like a stock mtnl modem... These kind of modems are available on eBay in the 500-800 range depending on their condition... Anyway it's my personal belief that it's better to rent the crappy mtnl modem rather than buying it... I think the rent for mtnl's wifi modem is rs 50/mo ... If u paid 1250 for this modem it feels like u paid 25 months of advance rent on it modem without the garantee that it will work for 12 months...
Agreed.
where do u want ur WiFi ? there are many models depending on the range
This is for my Home. I get wifi access in my room, living room and dining room. But there is limited or no wifi access in the guest room which is separated by 3 walls(pretty thick) and the master bedroom which is separated by about 4 walls and is a bit far.
I will suggest go MTNL SterLite SAM300AX Modem and buy
Linksys WiFi Router E Series.
Will look into that option
Yes you can its called WDS which stands for wireless distribution service.
Points to be considered will using WDS-
[*]Most WDS work only with the same manufacturers WDS enabled routers ie as models or the same WiFi chip-set routers - ie broadcom with broadcom or atheros with atheros.
[*]Same WiFi channel should used.
[*]The slave would repeat the WiFi signal but the throughput would be half while repeating.
[*]Lastly your Linksys router wont be supported by other new router which you purchase.
[*]Most Wireless cum ADSL modem routers don't have WDS functionality.
[*]More information is available on smallnetbuilder website.

I will have a look at the website posted. I feel this may be the optimum solution. What do you think?
