it's not tiles because dad said it would need to be polished. it is a customized stone made up of layers i think. dunno about the details. but right now it's quite rough and it would need marble like polishing once all the work is done.
about costs. well yeah, it costs more than the basic stone that you would otherwise install on the roof. but it does not cost more than the kind of tiles and stone you get installed inside your house.
and if it does work, it can save money on AC bills in the long run. i was very interested in this one because i have spent most of the past decade hiding away in the basement of the house where the weather is relatively calm in both winters and summers and going to top floor is basically the total opposite.
the company making these sheets claims that the floor should be cool enough for you to walk on them barefoot even in peak sunlight. lol. we would see.
about solar heater... the plans are currently doubtful. the seller said that the heaters fail in gurgaon faster because of the hard water we get in our direct supplies. plus the total cost of the project does not seem to save any money even in long term. not sure if brother still plans to get it. i have made up my mind on getting one of those remote controlled heaters that i can run at varied power levels to better manage the consumption during the day. we had to get one for backup in any case.
i use a heating rod these days to get an extra half bucket of hot water. it is just so cold around here. and the rod is barely one month old. and it already is full of the white coating probably because of the same hard water issue. i am guessing it would become ineffective in a few months of use. i guess the same problem exists with the solar heaters. the heating element would require frequent replacement adding to the cost of the whole project.
yes please provide the details of the seller and how much do they cost.
though i will wait for your feedback before i actually think of getting them fixed on my roof.
