so you believe airtel/vodafone/reliance would rent their spectrum to other players for cheap in delhi and mumbai?

i do not see them do so. the prices are already going to be sky high for local services.

of they wouldn't do it cheap, they would try as much to clear the money hole in their pockets created by this auction.

but it depends whether the other company has subscribers there which it would like to provide it too.

it is the same as roaming that when our subscribers go in your area, you provide them with service and we will pay you not that lose customers just because you can't provide the service.

and how would you like if you got 3G card in DELHI,you had to go to Bangalore for some reason and you didn't have the service there, the operators will license services from each other

also do you believe that a big name like TATA,idea would just leave their customers in DELHI and mumbai AND other high subscribed places

i guess mobile operators would not push for 4G for a couple of years now. i think europe auctioned 3G spectrum back in 2000. it took 10 years for india to catch up.

there is no incentive for any player to buy 4G spectrum for at least half a decade.

india was also in a poor situation in 2000

this time it will take lesser time for india to have 4g auction than the gap for 3g vs other countries.

once you get to a stage then growth happens fast like from 128kbps to 256kbps but when you get to 16mbps then you go straight to 32mbps

the data consumption does not increase double when you move from 16mbps to 32mbps at least over a longer period of time. few services would be able to provide you 32mbps at all time. but almost everything would be able consume 256kbps compared to 128kbps. law of averages is what enables the ISPs to survive in these tough conditions where they have to sell unlimited packs for a somewhat reasonable price for 1-2 mbps. for a user like me consumption did not probably double when i switch from 512k to 1mbps. i just manage to do more stuff in the same period of time.

yeah it doesn't but just telling you it increases fast.

so next time EU have a 4g auction,we won't be far behind like the 3G one

and even now if you surf the web multitasking, keeping 1080P HD streaming it takes atleast 8-10mbps speed and if you keep more than one video then it can easily touch higher speeds

And that is precisely the premise on which we are making our very high speed offerings available.

Any idea what will be the maximum download speed when 3G starts?

Depends on the providers. I would hope that providers are setting up 14 Mbit/s networks even if few phones/USB dongles are supporting that speed yet.

Most 3G phones (except the lower-end ones) will support 3.6 Mbit/s, some will support HSDPA (7.2 Mbit/s).

Haha, even though most 3G phones and dongles support 3.6 Mbit/s, BSNL gives speeds of about 140 Kbit/s to 340 Kbit/s. See https://broadband.forum/bsnl-3g/59651-netalyzr-report-3g-orissa-using-apn-bsnlnet/

I don't expect other operators to be much better, especially considering the fact that they paid a shitload of money just for the spectrum.

it might be in orissa but many people are getting upto 2.5mbps in MUMBai,my friend on unlimited MTNL plans gets these speed stably with uploads the same

also it depends on operators as if they provide full speeds on unlimited plans then they will get ripped apart so some may try to give low speeds so that people can't download much even though on an unlimited plan

Very correct. For all we know, BSNL's 3G equipment in Orissa could be sufficient only for the "original" 3G, in other words, up to 384kbit/s.
