I get mixed responses from Airtel people about whether their IP TV will work properly with a TV Tuner card. Some say yes, others say no.Anyone here who is using AirTEL IPTV with a PC TV Tuner card? What is your experience? Do you recommend this?

airtel stb uses the same composite cables i think that is used by dth. so if a tv tuner card accepts them, there is no reason why you cannot watch airtel iptv on your computer screen.

Ok, but AirTel staff seem to be confused. Some of them are saying that the display quality will not be good. One of them was saying the TV tuner will not be able to 'update' when they 'update' from the backend, which they do, every 2 or 3 months.I don't really understand what he meant. What issues could there be? What do these fellows have in mind?So..some of them say TV Tuner works fine with DTH, but not IPTVBut then some others say it works just fine......cant understand. I dont want to go through the headache of getting a TV tuner, installing Airtel IPTV, only to discover that it doesnt work properly! What issues could there possibly be?

apply some common sense.tv tuner just does the job of the tuner inside a regular television.it has nothing to do with the STB itself. it just takes what the stb outputs and show it on the screen right? you would still need the STB provided by airtel of course. the people you were talking to... might be thinking that you wanted to replace their STB with your TV Tuner card. that is not possible because the STB is required to decrypt the data.

That's right, I agree with you. There's shouldnt be a problem. If the TV tuner is designed to handle all the frequencies that a normal TV can handle. But it seems....currently AirTel refuses to install their IP TV with a PC-TV Tuner card. That's what one of the Airtel staff told me.Why would they refuse?

essentially, a PC monitor with a tv tuner card = television set. they are being idiots if they are refusing you a connection for not having a TV set.

Well....they are idiots then, I suppose. Because they are refusing to connect their IP TV to my TV tuner, on 'technical grounds' they cant explain properly...apart from some 'update problem' every 2 months.

----------

One of the 'technical' staff at Airtel, that I spoke to, had never heard of the brand 'Pinnacle' TV Tuner.

When I said even a road-side CD-hawker in Nehru Place, Delhi, knows what Pinnacle TV tuner is, he was quiet.

Amazing that he is from Technical Department of Delhi Airtel's IPTV, but has never heard of Pinnacle TV Tuner.

any STB works just fine with TV Tuner card, the only problem is that you will not be able to use the features of TV Tuner card, as it will receive only one input, which is component video, and not the TV input. and why Pinnacle? its expensive because of the brand name. Get one with hardware encoding features (mp4/div/xvid) if you want to record shows. and if it is just for watching, any normal tuner card will serve the purpose.
