All,
I would like to share my experience with the Airtel V-Fiber speed dropping issue and the solution that has worked out for me.
A year back the Airtel has upgraded my broadband connection to V-fiber and started offering 40 mbps speed. They have provided me Huawei HG630A Router/Modem and I was happy with its performance. I was getting the promised 40 Mbps speed. Almost after using this router for 1 year, one fine day my router was dead.
I raised the request with airtel and they replaced the router with Binatone DT910W. From that day my chase with airtel has started. With the Binatone router, I used to get 40 Mbps speed for few hours and then speed gets dropped 3-4 Mbps. The only way to resolve this issue is to restart the router. Again for few hours the speed stays at 40 mbps and then it’s dropped to 3-4 Mbps. I have raised several complaints with airtel team.
To me this was surprising because with Huawei router I never had this issue. Whenever I call Airtel call center, they always start with cleaning the temporary files in your computer (It does appear to me as standard solution from them. Strangely they will start without even asking me whether I am using computer for browsing L ). Then they tried with changing the DNS server. However, the problem persists.
Airtel engineer has visited my home and he replaced the Binatone DT910W with Binatone DT920W. This new router is small in size. However still the problem persists. Upon my escalation, Airtel tried some backend options (I am not sure what they tried) also but no use.
By this time I am convinced that somehow Huawei working fine, but then Binatone is giving up in my case, though I don’t know why. So I requested Airtel to provide me Huawei modem but the answer is that they are not using Huawei now and they also don’t have any stock. I am even searched for online shopping sites like QuickR to see if I can buy the Huawei , as from past 1 month Airtel was not able resolve my issue. I also searched Amazon to see if we have any other VDSL2 modem/router. I found one, TP-Link TD-W9977 300Mbps Wireless VDSL/ADSL Modem Router, but I am not sure if this works for Airtel V Fiber VDSL2.
While exploring the options myself, I have opened the Router page and looked at DSL configuration page. The CRC errors caught my attention. I can see thousands of errors. I immediately called the airtel service engineer and he told me that we will see this errors because of the wiring and he advised me to change the wiring. I am surprised that why these settings were not looked during my one month with Airtel.
Finally, I changed the wiring and my issue is resolved. I getting the speed and no more speed drop.. Personally I am convinced that Huawei was handling the CRC errors well and binatone is reducing the speed in such cases. Also I haven’t looked at the Attenuation and SNR Margin details with my old wiring. However, I understood the important of these settings through https://www.giantstride.gr/snr-margin-adsl/
