Best value for money smartphone deal under Rs. 7000?

So, my former ciggie supplier is looking to upgrade to a touchscreen smartphone. His budget is Rs. 7k MAX. He would prefer something around 6k though his top limit is 7k.
What options can I suggest him? :redface:

4.2 is bad. My personally preference for Jellybean versions:4.1.2 > 4.1.1 > 4.3 > 4.2.z

If he's a first time smartphone user, its better to find him something easy to use. Also, he won't be bothered which version of Android he uses. Get him a Micromax Bolt A27 or A35 under 5K. Am sure anyone moving from a feature phone would love it.

So your theory is based on seeing ONE phone and maybe never having used one yourself?
If that's the case, I've seen dozens of HTC Wildfires and LG P500s with a similar issue.

Go for Lava Iris 501, its MRP is 7500 now, works some deal on ebay etc, you should be able to get around 7000.
I am using it for 6-7 months, and its been a great value for money.
5 inch, Jelly bean, 2300 mAh, dual sim would certainly solve all the issues.
I have not come across any device which can out-beat this beast for the price paid.

Well I thought about Windows Phone but even Lumia 510 is priced at Rs. 7500 on Flipkart. Hehe.And well... For a new user who is unlikely to even connect the device to the internet, a cheapo Android smartphone would provide the features they want... Ability to listen to songs and videos.
