it would help you find your computer on the internet a lot more easier.. as if you get an ip via DHCP then it keeps changing everytime and difficult to remember ..so if you have a static ip you can access it at any time .

HiI use a BSNL broadband thay my mother took the connection from BSNL. We had Unlimited (UL750) connection that once we changed to 500 Combo and we were using it for 1.5 years and also BSNL is sending the bill in which it states that it is 500 Combo ( Fixed charge - Rs 500, Free call- 175) ..now sudeenly I got a bill of huge amount 10,000 Rs for this month and when I tried to check in BSNL portal server to see my usage ..I saw it didnt deduct the data downloaded/uploaded during the free time ( 2am to 8 am) from the total data usage and thas why the total data use became 10 Gb instead of 2 GB ( I downloaded 8 GB at night free time) ...Now when I approach to BSNL office to tell them that why it is like that and these data use should be deducted they said that in their computer my connection is Home 250 not Combo 500 ..it came out that my mother initially thought to change the unlimited connection to 250 gave a letter and later decided to change to Home 500 and also gave a another letter (...they show me both the letter of my mother ..asking to chage UL900 to Home 250 and also a letter asking to change UL900 to Home 250a nd both the letter didnt have any date) ..and BSNL first changed the connection to Home 500 and next month to Home 250 ...but somehow due to their mistake and inability to enter the data in their server ..the telephone bill I got came as if the connection is Home 500actually ity is mixed ...somehow the data download limit was set as 2GB ( like 500 Combo) but no free slot was provided (i,e like Home 250) ...and we didnt knew that our connection Home 250 , neither BSNl told me , nor it was reflected in the Bill ( In all the bill that we got, it was qouted as fixed charge -> Rs-500, free call ->175)...now they want that I should pay the 10000 Rs bill .....I asked as it is also BSNLs mistalke as First they didnt inform me that they changed to Home 250..Secondly they gave me wrong bill for this long time showing Home 500 connection for 1.5 year. What should I do. I meet with local accounts offcer ..but they says yes its their mitsake in the bill , but I have to pay....they said that only what they can do is to remain silent on the past 1.5 year bill..means they will not recalculate it based on Home 250 plan + seperate telephone plan..thereby I dont have to give the large sum based on recalculation..... but I must have to pay this 10000 Rs bill...They said that even there is no date in the letter of my mother still its a letter ...and also they said its not their duty to inform us that they changed my Plan....while I asked about the wrong bill why they mislead me for so long time..showing it Home 500 i,e why I downloaded in the night ..if I could know it is Home 250 I would not ...they said its their mistake ...but they will recitify it ...but I have to pay the whole sum...What should I do ? If I go to consumer Forum or to law Court ..is their any chance I will win or I have to pay the whole sum for 1.5 year ...I am so worried...Pl help...I curse myself that We took connection from BSNL.with best regardsRam

Very unfortunate incident. Write a written complaint to the Nodal officer and Appellate authority with receipt. Keep the necessary documents photocopied and attach to your complaint. You can also speak to them and seek help. Address and phone bill on the backside of your bill.

Hey Last month i had been getting bsnl net bandwidth of close to 2 mbps though i have a 750 unlimited plan of 256 kbps , so i was really excited of all the download i can do in no time which other wise takes ages to complete....I used to share internet with my neighbour through my wifi router before he got his own net last month... As he got his own net i disabled wifi signal from my router cause i use a desktop....After disabling the wifi connection from my router i still enjoyed the 2 mbps bandwidth for the whole of last month and was really happy with the great download speeds in torrents.....But recently i came to know that my neighbour got a whopping bill close to 20000 rs who had a 2 mbps plan form bsnl which has a 10 gb limit which he never used and got it cancelled immediately.......I now 100% believe that i was some how part of my neighbours net connection without him activating wireless on his utstarcom router......Now my question is that can i use others bsnl broadband username and password and can anyone change my router configuration settings like my bsnl username and password and save it onto my router wirelessly without actually being connected to the router physically through a lan wire ..( Is it possible to change and save router configuration being wireless )....Because beginning of this month my net had been disconnected for a day and when i called up customer care, they redirected me to my router where i found that my username and password was different from the one i login to check my usage ..... I strongly believe that the technician typed my neighbours username and password into my wifi router along with his(neighbours)....and also is there anyhow i can prove it to bsnl that i was surfing net through my landline using my router using my neighbours net account and save my neighbour paying up such a big bill somehow cause it was their(BSNL) mistake.....Any help will be highly appreciated....I use a Utstarcom WA3002G4 router .........

Do you have in your Desktop Computer the wireless lan card. If you dont have the wireless lan card install in your computer then there is no possibility to connect with your neighbour's wireless router.Your neighbour do his/her fault because he/she dont know how to use the limited bandwidth connection because he/she was using your UL connection before.

Thanks for replying indranil......I do not have any wireless card installed on my desktop computer so i cannot acess my neighbours net through wifi.........But my question is that can i use my neighbours Broadband username and Password for his 2 mbps plan into my router and enjoy his benefits without him knowing , this does not require wireless though.........

from what i know bsnl has port binding enabled. so you cannot use another user's id and password on your bsnl telephone line.

If you had not used any security key when you made settings for the
Wireless in your ROUTER, your BB connection signals will be
RADIATED to all neighbourhood and any one having a
Laptop or desktop computer with a WIFI adapter,
can enjoy Internet connection
from your Plan 750U/L.
Nobody affected.
2. Your 2 Mbps speed : are you still getting it ?
Since you claim that it was due to your neighbour's
connection, since disconnected .

3. If you had used your neighbour's ID and PW and downloaded
at 2 Mbps speed , what you down loaded excitedly
and happily will be added to his account.

4. If same done with your ID and PW speed of 2 Mbps could be
bsnl fault, as you might have changed your tariff plan from a 2 Mbps connection.

5. Check his usage with his 14digit portal ID for August 2009 for break up.

Usage check at http://data.bsnl.in
for you this website needed to change PW check "My Orders" etc.

6.I use two laptops. One in WIFI mode ( inspiron 8000)
and another in LAN mode.( Sony)
I cannot check WIFI status in SONY,( No wireless LAN adapter)
or
status in Inspiron( No ethernet card)
Secured with WPA key.

Thanks for replying

I am 100 % sure that bsnl has not performed port binding enabled on my neighbours telephone line cause i was able to acess my neighbours net account...... So this means that Bsnl is at fault right ???
