hard to say about fair usage policy but the speeds are permanent now as they have announced it officially on their website.

check the details on the BSNL Plans page. they might have mentioned the FUP for new connections on the same plan?

they do have FUP applicable on some plans in some regions from what i have seen on the forum. it would not surprise me if they apply it on this plan as well. but should not happen for a couple of months at least. :D once this plan becomes more widely used... they might notice the excessive usage by the users and might take a hard decision.

I am not able to attach the order copy as it is restricted here. I only reproduced the order subject however if the administrator give the go ahead I may post it here, but it is useless now, because bsnl websites may be updated now..

with regards,

Hi ashutosh_x

See what I posted here.. Plan 1350 speed increased to 2mbps with fairusuage policy after 15GB (DL/UL) your speed will be downgraded to normal

From all this, it seems to me that BSNL itself is still deriving clarity on this before it lets us know what exactly it is doing. I think in the coming days things might get a bit clear. I would like to hope that people use the broadband a bit sensibly and dont exactly try to download stuff 24X7 so that BSNL does not get tempted to impose 'fair' usage policies.

Are you on the Combo 499 plan? It comes with a FUP of 5GB, right?

Technically yes. But that isn't being enforced. I've done max upto 60Gb per month since Feb but the speeds weren't capped after 5gb was consumed. All 1mbps plans at Airtel have a FUP of 100 Gb methinks!
