Why don't you try linux? For example puppy linux can be run from a rw cd/dvd or better you can install it on your hard disk.

How is he going to install a new OS, when in the present set up he cannot even surf a web site fully ? Please see from the beginning of the thread , and if like "Antakshri" last sentence or word is taken, the thread goes off at a tangent.
Best Advice will be to buy a new computer with MAC !!

UT200r2u modem programmed for USB port only. CONFIRM. - Yes

@essbebeIt is not necessary to have internet to install a new OS. From his thread(some sites comes on fully and others not) it appeared that there is a sort of virus or malware on his PC. Even after installing and formatting the PC, his problem still persists. That may be due to the virus or malware having spread to other drives and after formating the C:\ they must have re-installed themselves.

many Linux cd's comes free with Linux books i think.digit magazine(Rs.125 per month) provides one CD & one DVD free with every edition & they have released & keep releasing almost all the major Linux versions.if you know someone who purchased DIGIT regularly then you can get almost all the major Linux versions till date.

@essebe An update on what happened...I got a RealTek Ethernet card from one of my frnd and gave a try ....Broadband worked very much fine...The speedtest done gave a result of 1.7 mbps dwnload speed and 198kbps upload speed...So am able to use the Broadband now with this card and the speed is pretty ok...So there had not been any pblm in my system as such... I just pulled the USB card out, cleaned it, inserted back and gave a try...Still it was in the same state...So the issue is not fully resolved but managing with an alternate solution now..

@reachbala Glad to note that WIN2k set up is working with ethernet card. . Please UPD the OS. No problem. Alternate web sites also available. You can also download IE6 or IE7 and FF 2.0.0.13.( www. filehippo.com)Para two : regarding USB operation, will take up later. There was mention of a patch for Win98 in the calcutta telephones web site.Also procedure recommended was, download the USB drivers to harddisk.Start computer. connect the modem . Let windows detect the hardware. usual procedure.
