BSNL Fiber Broadband new plans starting from 1 April 2024

@Protector Most locations have a single area-wide Vendor. BSNL doesn't want competition as each Vendor will try to disrupt the other's business.
Only in big towns, there are multiple vendors.

Was thinking of giving up the connection this week when this thread made me pause to see if their new plans make any sense. TBH their service is a bit half a$$ed. The old ADSL line that I had back in the days was more reliable than this darned fibre.

Make no mistake, BSNL has a LOT of potential to be a game changer but only IF their employees' mindset changes. But then that's asking for too much from a "secure-in-my-job/lifelong-employment-guarantee" type of people that are currently ruling the roost.

Till then we the people can only dream of getting good service. Hasten to add Airtel customer care is the pits...hopefully Tata Play hasn't followed suit.

Can BSNL disrupt market, do they still have an edge over others in any areas/region. Can we expect the likes of Airtel, Act, Jio etc to revise their plans to counter BSNL tariff.

While BSNL's plans may be attractive their service is quite frankly sub-par. Again speaking from personal experience. As mentioned earlier even their old ADSL service was more stable and available without frequent breakdowns.

I don't believe the private operators would consider it to be a threat to their business as of now. I mean a sloth-like organisation with inefficient excessive staffing levels, run by bureaucrats who consider it their pvt. property is not going to represent a challenge to the comparatively quick moving and performance oriented Pvt. Sector Cos. like Airtel/Jio/Tata/Vi among others.

Do I have hope for BSNL? Well, that's difficult to answer but I would reckon yes but only if they privatised it at least partially to drive in a Corp. culture that is more demanding. The fear of job loss, being result oriented and accountability is what drives pvt. sector employees to perform. Many former fully Govt. owned Cos are now so much better and have changed post stock market listing or privatisation including LIC, Air India. IDBI etc. There are no quick fixes for BSNL as it is a strategic infra Company.

@Chip - no no private operators and even small local operators stole the junction black box, deliberately cut adsl lines, fiber lines every 2-3 week atleast once ! troubling LCO crazy ! , in fiber they have to replace the whole 500 meters like atleast 2-3 times in this 5 months of time after i got fiber ! because the fiber was handled so bad when digging , how come only bsnl fibers get handled bad but not the other brands ? why only bsnl junction box get stolen, why adsl copper wires wer stolen at many places and severed with no reason at all .. so many bizzare quetsions unanswered . as i mentioned above - again i woudl say - they wana work hard - but they are stopped with less materials (when adsl line man showed me what he had ) ,also others "unparliamentary word" even stop them working ,delay their service by other means so customers opt to other brands . using bsnl bb for 8-9 years - so got to know the things in chronological orders lol , yes it was long back years ago so lazy , not customer friendly - i dont think so today , not anymore .
i see them worked hard , they do wana work hard and provide good service but competitors dont play fair .

@MEGAN I have seen them complaining about shortage of materials when in fact they are directly or indirectly involved in the pilferage. I went to fibre after the telephone cable, the entire armoured cable some 20 feet of it (!!) was pulled out of a duct 50 ft. away from a police station and sold for its copper content.

Our phones were down for weeks. BSNL decided to offer fibre connectivity instead and I opted for it. While it does not get affected by rain and is not worth stealing the line still goes off at least 3-4 times a month. No doubt the LCO does his best to keep the connectivity going but it's still not good enough IMO. Compared to Tata and Airtel these guys are not upto the mark in many ways.

Hope they improve but asking for it may be too much from a near bankrupt inefficient company that's so out of touch with the customer. Thing is, are we as customers supposed to put up with their shortcomings? I don't think so.

@Chip ya thats possible too involving in theft themselves this is what i pointing out the unfair practice of competitors hands on it too , and i dont want them to sleep or die , i dont wana let go the giant , so demand them to do the service , i write letters to officials to make the work faster -those were adsl days though. i hate the private companies personally , with the govt services i have some kinda of strategic leverage of being citizen of country but with private its too strict deliberately to delay the service or harrass the customer - ya it can be reverse in other services, but when it came to telephones i kinda win to some good extent here. we gota not let bsnl die murdered by unfair competitors ,we gota support and make them work .cheap and best is all i want -bsnl providing it ,shortcomings i can manage for few days ,longer times have got old these days , shortcomings are really short ,so happy with bsnl services.[/HEADING]

only those drainage diggings are the prime sole reason for 90% of problems , but with fiber it deals out in just few hours or a day at my place .i was getting adsl speed even 20mbps , then usually using 8mbps ,then it became 10mbps ,it was all good until this stupid drainage severins and local stupid politics came in play delayed 1.5 months in conversion of fiber -otherwise its all good.

if competitors wernt afraid of this sleeping giant ,they would not involve in unfair practice , they very well know just a little push to the giant , they would lose it all. would love to see that one day lol .

Though I consider myself a patient person I am afraid I am not that patient. :) And I have no particular affection for inefficient Govt. companies.

If BSNL doesn't pull up its socks it will die a slow miserable death at least on the consumer services front. My in-laws were on BSNL mobile and ported to Airtel simply because their service levels had dropped so much that it became unacceptable.

BTW my current landline I have (copper shifted to fibre) is the one that's been around since I was a school boy...we've had it for decades. We continued using BSNL in the hope they will improve..they have improved over the past decade, no doubt about it, but they're still not good enough. Heck man, I added internet services to the fibre connection remembering the good old ADSL connection back in the 2Ks. Believe it or not it was reliable, well, at least until the monsoons arrived.

For backbone provider services they would get orders from the Govt/Military and even some Corporates who want their service as a backup line. I personally believe BSNL should stick to Corporate services. They just don't have the finesse to deal with customers, yet.

PS - by no means am I saying the pvt. ISPs are perfect. Far from it. They can be just as frustrating to deal with at times as any sarkari Company.

oh ya true , the sim signal thingies are worst in bsnl true in terms of internet or signals drops but rural areas , some places where no other privates can raise some bars, bsnl does it , i really hope they get faster at sim sides , they are just starting 4g now -wish govt concentrates little more on thier own infrastructures rather giving their own towers for privates and losing a bigger battle .also at my place many have switched back to bsnl fibers from local private craps lol ,its funny and interesting to see a change just within few months , everyone loves cheap and best ,ya rain and road diggers for any reason are the main culprits to put bsnl at loss.. ,same thing happened even some distant relatives bsnl officials themselves got pvt sim lol ,even said notihng can be done ,all towers are given to privates ,also no workers in bsnl to take care of them ! may be some collaboration just like with fibers could bring bsnl sim stronger . i have drops in signal then raise in secs . but when it works - its awsome ! just fluctuations are hell . ineffecients can be made to work with few letters, but pvt harassments are intolerable to me
by the way does bnsl steal data as pvt guys too ?
