After Vyapam, irregularities and corruption in Madhya Pradesh Dental and Medical Admission Test (DMAT), a gateway for admission in private medical colleges in the state, have come under judicial scrutiny with the Supreme Court on Thursday agreeing to hear a plea for CBI probe into the scam.
There are 15 private dental colleges and six private medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh with approximately 2,800 seats for which the Association for Private Medical and Dental Colleges (APDMC) conducts DMAT every year. Forty-two per cent seats are for the state quota, 43% for management quota and the remaining 15% is for NRIs.
A bench of Chief Justice HL Dattu and justices Arun Mishra and Amitava Roy expressed concern after petitioners, who had also exposed the Vyapam scam, told the court that admissions were not being done on merit under DMAT and seats were sold for Rs 15 lakh to Rs 1.50 crore per seat, particularly under the management quota.
