Hi everyone,

I’ve been noticing this issue for quite some time now—possibly 6+ months. I usually don’t stay in this house (my parents do), but I’ve recently moved back and observed it more closely.

  • While watching YouTube, I’m getting only around 5 Mbps, and 4K videos don’t stream properly.
  • I also notice slowness while loading WhatsApp status videos.
  • Interestingly, there are no issues with Prime Video or Jio Hotstar — they stream fine.
  • On Netflix, I’m getting very poor 4K quality. The bitrate shows only around 2 Mbps, which I can see on my Sony 4K OLED TV by pressing the “i” button on the remote.

This seems inconsistent across platforms, and I’m trying to understand whether this is an ISP routing/throttling issue, DNS-related, or something else.

Has anyone faced a similar problem or found a solution?

i usually get 3-4tb of usage per month
on excitel network since 1.5+years

Thank you!

Woah, change your ISP buddy. 5Mbps is peanuts especially after JIO changed Wired and Wireless space in India.

Don't know this is something I too couldn't figure out but here's how I tested... When I use any other custom DNS on my laptop or any other device and play my 4k 60fps gaming livestream (not live but VOD) it always used to lag after playing for 2-3 seconds. Then later on when I used Google/Cloudflare DNS the issue got fixed. Then I tried again setting other custom DNS on device level, the issue started again then I changed back to Google/Cloudflare it resolved. So yes... Excitel is cheaping out on whatever this barebones setup is.

try with VPN and see if you get any improvements in speed. if vpn fixes the issue then its throttling by excitel.

try dsn change and if that fixes the issue then its excitel dsn related.
