RDS is something that allows the device to read information included in the radio broadcast. like station name.
internationally i believe RDS is also used to send data on the songs/show being broadcast. so you can actually see the name of the song (just like u get to see in case of mp3).

here, some radio stations broadcast the names so you can see what station is playing at that frequency. something like that.
