@admin - My personal argument at this point is of public availability, broadcast & usage. And my argument is that the law is THERE and if YOU feel its wrong, feel free to pursue to have it amended. Why are you questioning someone asking it to be followed. And to say Honey Bunny caused rapes is going overboard & I am not in favour of putting him in jail, rather repramanding him & let him go. And stopping public usage of them. If still he wants to sing in his bathroom or someone wants to ask him for a private performance. Nobody can & would try to stop them. But allowing it to be generally available like guns/weeds is kind of endorsing/accepting that behaviour as being norm. And that sets a bad precedent.

i guess. if mtv or channel v is playing vulgar songs. ask them to stop doing so. but targeting an individual for singing that song? that is going too extreme. i do not want to give the government the idea that they should be able to restrict something that a small group of people find offensive. doing so just opens the Pandora's box.

Now the FIR is a different subtopic, and though I personally dont like the song etc, I agree to the fact that as the long as he followed the law of the land where he did the act, nobody can question it.

Just one question here. How do you quantify yourself as the larger group, versus the group wanting it stopped as a smaller group.

Filing FIRs and causing trouble to people over little things is an abuse of the law. The law is to protect you, unless you're harmed you should stick to your business.

Thats why I separated myself from that particular subtopic. Now, I am not sure what could have been done to have it just banned and could have just cautioned him not to indulge in singing vulgar songs while he is in India, unless he is doing so in the privacy of his bathroom (he is saying he did not sing any, thats another point i would support in him NOT being arrested)

lol. in a country with 1.2 billion people, anyone protesting on twitter and facebook is in a minority. unless this government can establish a wide ranging voting system for such things which allows people to vote for them, there is no certain way to judge what view is in the minority and what view is in the majority. as far as i see, the demand for ban and the fir are both baseless as they are not connected to any law being broken. and my statement had a broad meaning. government has tried to restrict the views of people online who have conflicting views regarding the ruling party. i am all for the right to protest against things you do not like. but when you go on and file baseless FIRs against someone, you are just crossing the line. i can see that my statements are conflicting in nature. i am all for freedom to protest. but i personally dislike any protest that is against my own personal freedom of speech and expression and the ability to do what i am doing as long as it is according to the law of the land. :worthy:and now i am terribly confused. going to take a break from the thread and go back to my burn notice marathon which has made me highly unproductive in this first week of january.

Well, if I was to take the whole country then I can tell you that the majority (panchayats, religious folks, uncles/aunties , women focus groups & majority of women, politicians & all of them) would be in favour of it being banned. So, I would not like to take the easy way out & claim that based on this it should be banned. Rather, I am asking that even among the modern thinkers and more broad minded folks (the count of which should not be restricted to those who are online) can you confidently claim to be a majority? You can argue, but assert? I dont think so.

mmm i would have to disagree. from what i hear, india has majority of its population below the age of 25-30 years.
