Still in UK and US are they having MPEG 2 technology? Even if they sell all the MPEG 2 STB I think to convert the same MPEG 2 technology to MPEG 4 techonolgy how much will it cost?
I know about UK & Dubai, and there still SD transmission is done using MPEG-2.
For any STB to convert from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4, main board & Video processors needs to be replace & this almost costs 90% cost of STB, that means its like replacing whole STB

I read it in an article that it is possible to use a transcoder for converting from Mpeg2 to Mpeg4.. and costs below 1000 rupees.. is it true ? :)

I am not sure whether such transcoder exists

It exists and will come once Bigtv comes into market and also Dishtv and TS are going to bring mpeg4 stb in future for it.

Ideally TS should cjhange over to mpeg4, to increase their bandwidth and offer more channels, sell only mpeg4 stbs withe immediate effect and offer mpeg4 to mpeg2 coders to existing customers free of cost. With 12 transponders, hopefully, TS willbe in a position to offer 360 channels!

I think once the other competitor like dish tv comes with MPEG 4 STB then i think will also come out in the market on the same.............

Already Tata Sky make more money by cheating the customer. Then wahts prob with them to go for MPG4 Tech. Beucase if they go, then they get more money from customer.Note: 9X = Rs. 30 in Tata Sky:cry:9X = no extra cost in Dish TV

Tata Sky may not go for mpeg 4 atleast for another 1year. They are not getting channels even at the present situation because of their high carriage fees  Even if they add they are going to cost extra. So what is the use in mpeg 4 or 5?
