Official Google Blog: Shared memories made easy with Google Photos

With the launch of Google Photos in May, we made it simpler to share images and albums by sending links over SMS, email, or messaging apps. With today’s launch, you can now make the albums you send collaborative. People receiving the shared album can join to add their own photos and videos, and also get notifications when new pics are added. You can even save photos and videos from a shared album to your Google Photos library, so that you can hold onto them even if you weren’t the one holding the camera.
Best of all, there’s no setup—select photos, make an album and then send the link off to whomever you’d like. And it works no matter what device your friends and family are using—tablet or laptop, Android or iPhone.
Shared albums is rolling out today on Android, iOS and the web. Time to create an album and revisit that holiday party from another angle!

New Google Photos update for iOS

Rolling out now, the latest Google Photos update for iOS (v1.6) brings new features and improved performance throughout the app.

Here’s what’s new:

Shared albums
A new, easy way to pool photos and videos with whomever you want, across Android, iOS, and the web.

Just select photos, tap the Share icon, and select Shared Album. People you share the link with can add photos to the album and get notified when new moments are added

Privately sharing all the photos you took – and getting the ones you didn’t – has never been easier.

Free up space
Turn your 16GB phone into a space-for-everything phone.

In Settings, just tap “Free Up Space”. Device copies of safely backed up photos and videos will be removed from your device, but will still be accessible in Google Photos. You’ll also be automatically notified when you’re running low on space.

Yes, you can finally stop worrying about running out of space on your phone.

Chromecast support
Cast your photos and videos to your TV, even if they haven't been backed up yet. And don’t worry – when you’re casting, people will only see the photos you tap on.

Improved backup
Backing up your photos and videos is now more reliable and up to 4x faster, so upload away!
