Yesterday I contacted my local internet provider to disconnect my internet connection as It is 22/8 I want it to be done before the months end so I don't get asked for money for the next month. The person responded with I need to talk to someone and I will get back to you. After he didn't get back to me I called him and he told me I have informed the "company" and because the account is activated I will need to look into it, whatever that means.

What can I do in this case is there a official that I can reach out to because I thought when I ask for my internet to be disconnected it should be disconnected.
I have a feeling the person is trying to delay the disconnection to the next month so he can charge me for an entire month without me using the internet.
To conclude:
1. may I know how long it takes to disconnect the internet connection?
2. Is there a person I can contact like a nodal officer for these sort of cases?

Write them an email on there official email id stating your account information and that you would like to deactivate/discontinue your connection. Also state that you will not be liable to pay for the service from the date this email was sent. make sure that you call them and inform them about the mail you wrote to them and ask them to confirm if they received the email or not. Now disconnect the router from your side so that there is no internet activity from your account. that's it.

@mayank yadav Thank you for the reply.

I would do that but my "ISP" is likely a re seller as such I do not know whom to contact other than the local guy whose name-number were on the pamphlet for an ISP called Triple play but after getting the connection when I checked after a month the broadband was being provided by ANI and now the ISP shows as Gigatel.
The account information I have are the login ID and password for the PPPoE provided by the local guy.

I will be calling the guy again today and keep this thread updated and would appreciate any helpful suggestion. I have got a lot of good advice from this forum.

mostly local isp works on prepaid basis so tell your lco you won't pay for next month, you account will become inactive on next recharge date.

I pre-pay this person comes to my house to collect the payment sometimes gives a receipt that is likely not a real GST receipt by the looks of it and other times he just has me sign a card. This was a big mistake but I thought I was supporting local businesses by taking internet from these people but I feel like I am supporting a crime.
I have contact him a few minutes ago and he tells me the internet can only be disconnected next month and I argued that this months payment is already done so why can't you disconnect the connection that is already paid for i.e. you get money for not providing the service for a week. Now he says he is looking at the card to see if I have made the payment. This is ridiculous. At this point I do not mind paying an extra months rent just to get rid of this mess. I am pretty sure these guys are operating without a licence considering the fake receipt and no receipt a lot of times.

I did tell him that after that he said he is looking at the card to see if I have made the payment which I have made and then he will call me.
I should add these people made me pay close to Rs. 6000 during installation and I paid it because I was excited about the high speed connection and I was already paying extravagant prices to MTNL and this didn't feel like a big expense. Now upon checking the Gigatel site I can see I was being charged at least Rs. 100 more and since I rarely check speeds I was probably on the lowest plan but being charged for the max plan.
This is all a big lesson for me. I need to be more cautious about payments.
P.S. I am recording all the conversation I am having with this person from now on. I do not know how much help that will be but atleast I will have something to show.

there is no license involved they get some commission per recharge from main isp, last mile connectivity and maintenance is their responsibility .

6000 for what ? is it ftth and how much you pay per month ?

Update: The guy called and told me the package is active till the 13th and I will get a message that my package is about to expire and at that point I can contact him and tell him not to reactivate my connection. Apparently my number on their portal was incorrect as well and hence I was not getting these messages earlier.
