There is a pipe that opens up on a wall on the side of the house. No boxes. The telephone wire connects that wire to the white box in my home. No joints in the middle.
The old man connected his phone instrument to the wire coming out of that pipe. It's not a pretty scene though. Would try to post photo in the morning.
