But there is also a clause for DD sharing that, DD will give certain amount (perhaps 25%) to original broadcaster from the amount DD earns. And as DD has more coverage so it attracts more commercials, so more income, and so that share to original broadcaster as well :)

There was a big debate regarding this with Neo which had (does it still have?) the rights for all matches on Indian soil. Neo's argument was that DD was selling it's slots dirt cheap to the tune of 25K per 10 seconds as opposed to the 3L per 10 seconds that Neo was charging. Owing to DD's superior reach, it only made more sense for the advertisers to choose DD over Neo. Due to this, the ad revenue generated was peanuts as compared to what Neo could do had it been the exclusive broadcaster.

This is also the reason why a 555 brand broom finds its way into the DD screen, but not on to a Ten Cricket or ESPN
 
Thats just excuses - I have no doubt, that even if they get hefty amounts like 5L/10 sec - they will still show these 2/3rd screen ads - take IPL/Max- they are sole broadcasters - they are touted to have brought in new viewers :P ... and they still zoomed to a full screen ads in between overs itself - not to mention **** Kamaal Katch , *** Maximum, *** Moment of Success.... No doubt they will be charging more /sec for IPL than for these bilateral series itself .

I can imagine - next level - they will be zooming on the T-shirts of players on the sponsors' logo for 10-15 seconds & pretend its part of normal coverage
 
DD is way better broadcaster.The Hindi commentary sucks though :P !This advert thing needs to be controlled.TEN cricket ruins the experience of watching cricket.

If thats the case, then ur "following" the Aussie team is justified - u seem to be having an "All Time Favourite" team of urs as Aussies......that hardly changes for many!!

As regards the war between channels - i will never support agantuk's views.....

So what if they are earning the rights for a price?? Should they defeat the sole purpose for what they are obtaining the rights - SHOW SOME BLOODY CRICKET??
C'mon i mean - why do they never show 1 damn replay??
Where the hell do they sleep when they always miss out the first delivery of every over??
And when it comes to throwing in ads at the end of an over, how they they become Hyperactive & show that nonsense, even before the ball is bowled??
They never show the Toss, Pitch Report & Presentation live.......IT IS ALWAYS RECORDED.....

I totally agree with Rock.....they ruin the experience of watching cricket.

And i am stilll more than 100% sure, that i am missing out on many other "OUTSTANDING FEATURES", of this "SUPER-SENSATIONAL" channel as i am posting.....

If they think that they are recovering cost by doing these gimmicks, then i am afraid, THEY ARE GROSSLY, GROSSLY MISTAKEN.....

Coz what these ads have done is -

Short Term -
1) Lost Viewership to DD.
2) The advertisers will be losing out on atleast some sales - COZ THERE WOULD BE PEOPLE LIKE ME FUMING WITH FRUSTRATION, who will BLINDLY avoid using Products/Services advertised on it.

Long Term -
1) I am surely not subscribing to this channel again.....if its in the base pack (D2h has it) then i will "Delete" the nonsense, by following the steps mentioned in one of the threads.....
2) If any company is awake enough, then they wont advertise with this nonsense channel.
 
Actually the rate at which these channels get rights are very very high, so they have to show as many advs as possible to recover their investment in getting rights. But while doing this, they should follow some ethics & standards of sports broadcasting. I feel TRAI should intervene and stop such things by putting some limit on advertisement & brand promotion for broadcast duration. But if advertisment are reduced, rate of channel would go up, and we have to pay more atleast 3-4 times of current price!
 
Should they defeat the sole purpose for what they are obtaining the rights - Well I feel the sole purpose they are obtaining the rights is to make even more money - by hook or by crook - though which it is, is easy to guessAs I say I wont be surprised if we end up staring at the logos on the players clothes for a longer duration than the actual action.

Dont u people think its REALLY A HIGH TIME, before Customers take something in our hands?? I just checked the link posted by raj25, and now really feel, that we are the only ones who are suffering....

Just because of our "Chalta Hai" attitude......

ITS REALLY NOT A JOKE. If this is allowed to continue, then what will happen tomorrow is this -

1) U will see may be a Vodafone or Airtel logo inscribed on the Pitch
2) Whenever the umpire signals a wicket or four or six, they will show him raising a "Placard" like thing (Not in reality, but they will edit the feed in that way) and the words will read:
a) That was a Vodafone 6!!
b) That was an Xtramile Wicket
c) Thats a BIG TV wide
and so on......
3) After every delivery, u will see a full ad being screened - which is already happening in Ten Cricket.....That too, if they are in a modd to show u cricket. If not, then u will be missing 2-3 deliveries, just to see an ad.
4) Then they will even start cutting down the information flashed on the Score bar......they will flash all ads over there instead of the score, or ball speed, or overs, etc - IT IS HAPPENING IN NEWS CHANNELS.
5) Instead of commentary, they will air advertisements only.

And this really is no bluff - if we dont act now, this will actually happen.

CANT WE DO ANYTHING TO CHANGE THIS SITUATION AROUND?????????

U say that they obtain rights at high costs...

They are getting at high costs, because the "People who give rights", know that these guys are just gonna print their own money once they are given the rights.....

Just take 1 case of NZ......they have Sky Virtual.....
And on that they give an ad break only during drinks, that too not for too long - because they air Wickets package, or 4s/6s package or Player achievement (50/100) package....
If the Broadcast rights are that costly, then why are these channels not showing so many ads??
Saying that they are trying to recover the "High Costs" is just a lame excuse. They are already charging hefty amounts for subscription, and not to mention The AMAZING QUALITY of their Broadcast.....
Every other minute the frame freezes, or the superb "Glass-break" effect on screen, and the Print of 1990s.....oh, the World Cup telecast of 1996 has better quality then what Ten Cricket broadcasts.

So, no need to defend them on terms of Costs - they are already saving a lots on cost front, as also, recovering astronomical amounts by selling subscriber rights on the Revenue front.....
