So u expected Sehwag to be the captain? He fails miserably as a captain. In fact, he is anyways failing these days. If ur theory was to be believed, then he wudnt have been there in the team. If Dhoni has such a backing, and he has no fear at all, then there was absolutely nothing to stop him from sacking 2 non-performing players, who r falling prey to same old mistakes, and failing to learn from it.

Dhoni is supposed to be a keeper first and then a batsman. If he fails as a batsman, u still have an excellent keeper in him. But with Sehwag & Gambhir - without their batting - they are liabilities on the team.

How do you conclude that Sehwag fails miserably as a captain? Has he been given test captaincy for a continuous period, even two consecutive tests? Without testing I wonder how do you decide.

And secondly, it is simply not at all easy for Dhoni to drop Sehwag. Sehwag isn't performing as bad as he is portrayed, and thus the hesitant Dhoni. Even in the ongoing series Sehwag averages 42-43, which is low by his personal standards but still not bad at all. Even in the tour to Australia, he was the only player along with Sachin and Virat to have two 50+ scores in the series. And the kind of reputation Sehwag has gained since 2008-10 (2010 especially) doesn't make it easy for anyone to drop him. But still the ease with which Dhoni keeps Sehwag out (against Aus in T20 WC, out of the Asia Cup, out of the upcoming T20 series) is baffling. It's not surprising though because everyone knows that Dhoni has a strong backing.

Eng won the toss and elected to bat...India made 2 changes Jadeja and Chawla are in the 11...Eng - 53/2...

One of the comment from Cricinfo Surfer...
"It's just second session of the Test match. Why has Dhoni already gone for defensive field settings. As an Indian Cricket fan, I am really unhappy about Dhoni's approach to the game." I

The team selection is ridiculous too. Why three specialist spinners on a flat pitch? And then Jadeja too. Rahane was selected as a middle order batsman in the squad, he should have played as 3 specialist spinners are already in the team. Even 3 spinners is too much, Dinda should have played.

Another comment:

Despite his gulling of Trott, Abhinav isn't convinced... "Ravindra Jadeja is suitable for Tests as much as Ajay Jadeja was for Bollywood."

He has got his share of chances. I remember the test in NZ. We had won the 1st test, and then in the 2nd Test Sehwag was the captain. Nonsense field placements, pathetic batting, and absurd bowling changes. As if he was determined to lose the match. But somehow Gambhir & Laxman managed to salvage it.

This is totally contradicting mate. Its clearly giving out dual tones of ur opinion. Either he has to be having that much backing, to be able to drop Sehwag, or all that talk of backing is nonsense - its either one of the 2, but not both.
If he has so much influence, that Srinivasan cud remove Amarnath instead of sacking Dhoni, then i guess thats enuf power to command any team that he wants.

That's not at all a contradictory point. I said that Sehwag cannot be dropped, and thus any captain cannot do that and will be hesitant. But still Dhoni somehow manages to keep him out, and to do that one needs a really strong backing. As far as the second New Zealand test is concerned, I still remember that game. I was in Goa then, and watched the match in bits and pieces. I remember Ryder being dropped THRICE even before he reached 15, and he went on to score a double. That match was a perfect case of bad luck. And unless and until you give some a fair amount of chance, you cannot judge him. People say that if youngsters are given less opportunities then they can't show their talent. They need to be given at least 3-4 successive games, and I'm sure that the same should be applied to captaincy too. Before West Indies ODI series, people said that Sehwag's batting record as skipper was bad. When he got a long run as a captain, he not only won the series for us but scored the incredible 219. In short, give him fair amount of chances before judging his captaincy.

England 277/7, 129 oversSeems like any batsman who debuts against India has been give a 'Welcome & score' approach.
