Jio fiber router getting slow over time? Restart fixes it.

@MountainMonkey5 how to do that? I don’t know the current Tx power either, the router doesn’t show. Some basic routers show Tx and Rx powers.

its in basic setting for 2.4GHz and 5Ghz, type Basic in the search it will show, I kept both at 75%, lets see what difference will it make!

Oh ok… i know that. I thought you were talking about optical power.

nah nah, I called an Engineer once in May, for evaluation, and at that time this issue was present, and I wanted the router replacement, and was not able to, he checked the optical fiber it was ~19.xx.

this JCOW414 is also made by Sercom?

Seems so. They have mentioned Servercom (INDIA) Private Limited as the Manufacturer.

@Gaurav15 Have you tried reducing the transmitting power?

I'm just curious to know how lowering transmission power benefits the slowness on 5GHz. Is it to avoid heating assuming heating is causing the slowness?

@VinayakaSP I don’t think heating is an issue. My 2 points against this theory.

1. The problem exists in December-January cold of north India when touching random surfaces feel to cold except warmth of jacked pocket.

2. If a simple reboot fixes the problem in such a way that it works fine for days, there’s no chance that 2 min break for the router brings down the temperature so much that it’s good for another days and weeks.

lowering signal strength may possibly have power distribution related effects where some parts of router underperform due to lack or power but i myself wouldn’t buy this shit.

the problem according to me lies in architecture, OS or memory management. Some part of a cache or memory or something fills up causing this weird behaviour. This is an example of poor engineering and design.

@Gaurav15 exactly that's my point too. There must be some architectural issues with 5GHz transmitter in particular in this model of router

So the jio technical guys came. Did some firmware upgrades manually. Kept saying your router is too old. Then they said let us know if this problem resurfaces, we'll change the router.

I have a feeling Jio knows about this issue and is changing routers on complaint basis.

@Gaurav15, any resolution for the problem, now I am thinking of discontinuing my old connection and getting a fresh prepaid connection, from a FAT right outside my house, as the earliet one was from the faraway pole ~80m.
