Now that I am evaluating Kerala Vision broadband, thought I would create a thread to share my experience. My LCO provides broadband services from BSNL and Kerala Vision, so thought would be good to evaluate Kerala Vision as well.

Getting the account setup was pretty easy, cause there was no need for additional cabling or ONT etc. I shared a photo and ID/address proof doc to the LCO, and the same day evening he setup my account and shared the credentials. The LCO shares the same OLT for all services, so on my end, I just needed to configure my OpenWRT device appropriately.

Initially I didn't get the Kerala Vision VLAN, so I had to reach out to the LCO's tech guy who shared the id. I added the VLAN to the switch (my ONT is a transparent bridge, so I needed no change on the ONT) which created an interface and all I needed to do was add the necessary interface configuration with the PPPoE credentials.

As you can see, they use CG-NAT which is disappointing but other than BSNL and few others nobody else gives public IP addresses. Also I liked the fact that things just worked on first try 😆 (the above screenshot is from my first try to connect)

Will add more details as I explore more.

Said screw it and pulled the trigger on Jio. KV has just been unusable for the past 2 days and it's gotten to a point that its disrupting my work. I've never seen it this bad, felt like I'd gone back to the DSL days. KV connection is gonna be active for another 2 weeks. Might do a new thread with comparisons once I get the installation done on monday.

@Sammy Which plan are you going for? Also, good that they are ready to provide the connection even during the lockdown period.

The initial cost is the same Rs 2500 out of which Rs 1500 is refundable, correct?

Jio and many others resumed their maintenance and new connection works on the 15th. So they're a bit busy now but the guy assured that I can be hooked up by monday. Going for the Gold 250mbps plan since they're offering double data now. Yup, the connection cost is 2500 and the sales guy is really pressuring me to go for like a 1yr plan but I'm gonna wait for the postpaid plans to release, whenever that will be.

Even I am disconnecting KV broadband. LCO guy finally agreed to provide me BSNL FTTH , with lot of pressure from DGM BSNL Ernakulam etc. I had mailed them about the situation and they promptly get involved into it. This guy will just enable me in OLT and I need to the all the modem configuration on my own with help from BSNL guys , that's the agreement :) since the LCO guy not even 100% okay for me to give BSNL connection. ( For sure , he will get getting a big amount of commission from KV ... )

Not sure if can interrupt my service by any means. fingers crossed..

@varkey I might need some input from you re the configuration , please help if possible. :)

@vu3knb I say bsnl is really trying to improve very hard isn't it . They are striving to get new connections very much, unlike from their old days.Even if they are mostly affected by the lockdown and all they are doing it their best for recovering .

Yeah even in my area the LCO's are abandoning any other tie-ups in favor of KV, must be some insane commission. Their plans aren't even that much better when compared to Railwire/Asianet. They must be balling with all the new connections they're getting. I doubt they have the bandwidth to continue like this though. All the current subscribers are just getting scammed out of the bandwidth they should be getting.

This is happening only in Kerala.
Only BSNL Kerala is being proactive and pushing many initiatives to get more customers and other state units are just being BSNL.

Among these asianet has the best plans available starting at 100 mbps 749 400gb plan ,while KV and all does have only 50 mbps plans in the same price bracket
