^ I am using a Vodafone 3G SIM with the 400R. I had no issues. I had to wait a day or two for the new SIM to be activated, but once it was the device worked seamlessly. It already has the settings for most (if not all) Indian telecom providers, so I just had to turn it on, connect it and start using it. The only thing I meddled with was the WiFi settings so that it's not open for others to steal. As far as your 2G problem goes, are you sure you have subscribed for a 3G plan with Vodafone? I would try three things:1) Check your settings on the 400R - there's somewhere where you can choose 2G Only, 3G only, 2G + 3G - perhaps that might be on the wrong setting.2) Check if you are getting the same result in different localities of your city. Perhaps where you are using it from has poor network coverage.3) If the above two don't solve it, go to a Vodafone store and show it to them.

So , all-in-all its a good gadget to own if you have more than 2 devices using same internet connection espc 3G dongles !Ebay options for this product are various , same product 30 different sellers & 30 different prices BUT reading few replies above it seems they are selling 'clearance stock' &/Or damaged stuff.On the other hand Flipkart has good reviews even at 2750/- free shipping.---UPDATE 21ST AUGUST 7:30PM---Have ordered this just now , will post the review on coming days ...
I bought it from Flipkart at 2750, but got a defective unit. The unit works fine from a data transfer point of view, but the buttons were totally non-operational. I had to resort to taking the battery out to switch the device off.good thing I bought from a reputable retailer like flipkart who make returns easy

Yes, every single time. The other buttons were also not very reliable, if I switch off the wifi, it would work and the light would turn Green. But no amount of pressing of buttons in various duration and combination would make it work.My feeling is that these are manufactured with very low quality and if you're lucky, you get a good one. I'm glad I bought from flipkart, who are customer friendly. I can't imagine the problem if I had bought from an no-name ebay seller and have to be at their mercy for returns.
^ Are you sure you were using it properly? In mine, if I am connecting it to a USB port (so that it charges while I use it), it's better to first turn it on (long press on the power button) and then connect it once all the various lights start blinking etc. to denote that it is starting up and connecting etc. If you connect it to the USB cable first, and then try to turn it on, it gets into charge mode, and then it takes a while before you can actually turn it on. Maybe that was your problem?

Can i use a Tata Docomo CDMA sim or reliance CDMA sim in Micromax mmx 400 r. I am planning to buy one soon...I am considering CDMA options because i am constantly on travel and no one operator provides 3g all across india.or is there any other mi fi router with support to 3G GSM as well as CDMA EVDO networks
