Factory reset does not change your OS.

^^^ factory reset only clears user related data. Ie apps and other settings, data. As rightly pointed out earlier.

Though it would be interesting if it did resetting the phone back to condition it came out of the factory in. In terms of software I mean

well it wipes the data partition. so the software is actually restored to factory setting.

So every time software is updated on the device from Google/Manufacturer... It basically changes the factory ROM?
