Guys, I wanted a 'in-real-life' type of answer. Practical, not theory.

Just multiply ur download speed by 8
(i get 54 speed while using torrent on 512kbps connection, so multiply 54 by 8 and u will get 432kbps , then go to wolframalpha and write "700mb at 432kbps"
u will get the right answer)

THE ANSWER WILL BE ACCURATE ( Write the avg speed which u get on torrent)

i download a 700 movie in about 3.45 hours

Guys I am from Mumbai, have recently(in Diwali) took 256 unlimited plan.
I use to get 230Kbps download speed, was able to download 1 GB file in about 1 hour 30 mins. And today(26 nov 2009) my speed was decreased, its giving me 41Kbps download speed.
So I searched net...got the news of change in plan(256 to 384)
Now my question is, has MTNL Change the plan from 256 kilobytes to 384 kilobits?????
if thats the case...its bad :(
Please guys..if someone got any proof of real increase in speed...assure me :)

Edit:
See guys this is my recent speed test:
Download Speed: 336 kbps (42 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 206 kbps (25.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Till yesterday it use you go 1750 kbps (230 KB/sec) download speed

This all is so not good

MTNL has changed 256kbps (kilobits/sec) Unlimited plan to 384kbps (kilobits/sec) Unlimited plan. There is also a 2mbps (megabits/sec) Unlimited plan which is equivalent to 256 kilobytes/sec but they don't advertise it as 256 kilobytes/sec plan.I guess you where on a 2mbps plan earlier when you used to get 230kB/s so you got some time to continue enjoy that speed before MTNL reduced your speed.

Ohh thats a bad news man.....can't even think of such thing. Was really enjoying the speed....now even if the plan states it has increased the speed...I am actually going to experience LOW speed....damn :icry:

you are getting the correct speeds for which you are paying. dont crib. if you need the high speeds you pay for it and get. there are plans for 4000 rupees and 8 thousand rupees. You just enjoyed a golden period of high speeds as mtnl unknowingly gives it to new customers. so dont complain for no reasons.

Well not like that....but just imagine its like you got a job with a 50000 Rs per month salary and suddenly next month you get 10000 Rs salary...so what that person will feel.
I know that its what they stated of 256 kbps....so I should not expect more......but giving someone more and then suddenly taking it away makes no sense. And the new customers are not even aware of this things. Its like playing with emotions.
Chalo let it be....ab jo hai wo hai. I'll try to get use to this :D

you are doing it wrong. it's like your salary is Rs. 10,000 but due to some system error or a mistake made by the accounts department, they give you Rs. 1,00,000 for a couple of months. but they realize it one day and you are back to the actual amount. the good thing is that they cannot ask you to pay you for those faster broadband days. in the above case, you might get sued to get that excess money back :)

Ya thats nice....:thumb:
but can someone explain me this http://202.159.230.232:8888/speed/speedtrai.htm

I am confused....its a link through MTNL mumbai site. :)

it just states that trai requires the ISPs to deliver at least 80% of published speeds.

I recently switched from NU to this plan. But whenever i download anything, the "accounted volume" field is not zero like in NU plan:huh:
Are all 749UL users having similar stats??
