You mean to say that the green light on STB will turn red automatically after some inactive time? But if the user is watching a cricket match and he doesn't touch the remote for 3-4 hours, the STB will go in standby mode. There are no settings to customise the inactive time.
I dont think that with so many channels coming, there wud be any person who wudnt be touching remote for more than half an hr. Infact ppl change channels in every break. Even while watching movie, one tends to reduce/increase volume every now and then (i.e. if u use volume control of STB and not TV)
In my opinion 3-4 hrs is high it shud be 30-40 mins only.
the thing is. it is unlikely that a user would see the same channel for a long period of time without tinkering with the remote.we all switch around even when watching a match or a movie.so basically if you do not switch the channel or change any other value for a long time lets say 2 hours... it definitely means that you have either turned off the tv or u slept while watching the tv. so it could then shut down. most tv sets have a similar feature. but they usually turn off when they notice no signal transmitting on the screen.
I guess STB cannot detect whether TV is on or off. So how STB will go in auto standby and how will it detect the inactivity of the user?
Yes STB cannot detect TV On or Off, not atleast on RCA/Composite cables provided.
Inactive time is calculated from the time user last sent any command to STB by Remote or Front Panel key press. If user does not press any key for 3-4 hours (or could be more time upto 6-8 hours, depends how it is programed by Tata Sky), STB would go into standby (Green light to Red light), and you have no option but to turn STB ON (Red light to Green light) again. If some long program is to be viewed continuously, auto-standby can be turned off. But I don't think anybody would watch any programme/channel continuously for more then 3 hours, without changing channel.
I think this feature might help when the stb is on mode during the night time and then after we sleep it might just automatically switch off.......I will check this out to night by switching on the stb and sleeping .....let me check what does it happen in the morning when i wake and switch on my tv set......
Daily around midnight i switch off the tv by tv remote and switch off my TS+ with remote........but i daily reocord the 7 am jaya news and 7.30 am sun tv news and watch the news when i wake around 8 AM......but today i will not schedule any recording for tomorrow morning tamil news and let me see what happens with this auto stand by mode........
Thomson TV had a count down timer mode, which can be set in increments of 30 minutes; the TV will switch off after the set time.SVK can consider (or recommend) a similar solution for STB.The stb will hibernate after the current programme ends, or after a set time.It so happens that I keep the tv off whenever recording is to be done; I have provided separate switches for the TV and the stb. The stb is in standby mode if recording is planned. The STB consumes 56 watts when normal and 28 watts when in hybernation.

I have seen in 1 of STB which had popup 1 min before STB going to standby. If user press any key, STB remained ON, if no key was pressed STB turns to standby.

56 Watts?
That is higher. The STB on which I am working it takes 20~22 W in power ON and 13~14 W while in Standby with HDD stopped. Ofcourse it is a IPTV STB, so may be it consumes less power.
