the mid segment will prolly b where the lumia 620/820 n all might fit in i think. it wud b interesting though coz there are a truckload of devices in that range frm samsung n Sony.

--as for your points. now that a lot more people are going for windows phone devices, i am actually very pleased and waiting for reactions from users who are going to find themselves locked onto the microsoft's ecosystem. :) i hope lumia devices works out well for the people who are planning to purchase them.

The reason why the Lumia 920 won't work at 40k is not because of android, but because of the iPhone 5 which is available for around 40k for the 16gig variant. The desirability of the iPhone 5 among the general population is far higher than anything Nokia has to offer. Samsung gets away by pricing their devices sensibly and highlighting shit like big ass screens which people can see.

Perfect!

If you really see a lot of people dont care about locked systems (ahem), and are going for Android because its the trend, such people wont mind changing based on the newer trends. But yes manu's point is very correct. Windows (or even BB) phones need to be around 30 max, because at this point they dont stand a chance against an iPhone costing 40.

I have received an invitation for launch @ 6.30 pm today in Taj Vivanta on my official mail. Both 920 and 820 launch is today in Bangalore.

Hope that pillar wont block your view ;) and do share the nice pic with photo frame here.

1st Launch was in kolkata , delhi launch on 10th.

I moved on to Android as I was tired of waiting and I guess the saga continues.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mh51YKjceo

1. a camera that beats everything in the market
2. almost all apps are available xcept for maybe instagram n 1-2 others
3. a tightly integrated social networking( how abt not having ot open a damn app for everything ??)
4. a OS that just works ?
5. sumthing that actually allows u to be productive (the entire office package ??) and pl don't tell me about the third class office apps available for android. they are no match
6. a os which is updated directly by MS rather than the manufacturer. !
u don't see a reason or u don't want to see one ?? :)

I am going to be playing with fire here.

1. Nokia Lumia 920 has a good camera. There are no questions about it. Nokia wins.
2. There are shit load of lesser known apps that are not going to be on Windows Phone. Instagram should soon have a version for Windows Phone considering the Facebook acquisition. But the kind of third party apps that massively improves the capabilities of Android platform are going to be non-existing on Windows Phone because of the platform restriction. I would give another example here… A webkit based browser. Firefox for Windows Phone? Good luck with that. The mobile web is sadly optimized for webkit not Internet Explorer.
3. It does not have integration with Google+. I guess you would say that no one uses Google+. Sadly, that is more like a myth. Google+ currently has almost half as many active users as Twitter.
4. Google Android works just fine. It’s just people on Android platform ask for more. In case you have missed on the core factor. Google Android 2.3 has more features than Apple iOS 6 and Windows Phone 8. If you limit your demands, Windows Phone is perfect for you.
5. Office for Windows Phone. Cool. I am not sure how many folks here actually create documents/spreadsheets/presentations on their smartphones. As long as the device can display files fine, I am sure 80% of the userbase would be more than happy.
6. If you want a device supported by Google, there is always Nexus. I would admit that it is sad that Nexus devices are not launched at all or in time by the manufacturers. But I hope to see this change with Nexus 4. Once the demand and supply situation improves globally, LG should be able to bring it to India. In any case, things are improving. Sony, HTC and Samsung are doing a much better job at least with their top of the line products. Again, I would like to point out… Android 2.3 was a fairly feature rich platform. Windows Phone and Apple iOS are still catching up. A 2 year old Android device I bet can perform much more tasks than a current generation iPhone/WP device. This is debatable of course.

Of course there are performance benefits when you have a rather restricted platform. And of course, third party customizations mess up the overall Android user experience. I know because I found HTC One X awful and moved to a Nexus device in a matter of weeks. But personally, I would rather be on Windows XP than on Windows RT. Crappy analogy. But Windows Phone is pretty close to what Windows RT is on desktops (and tablets). Looks nice, performance is cool but do you get extensive functionality? Nope.*

I do not really want to get into another argument here. I want people here on the forum to GET Windows Phone 8 devices. I want to know how their experience is especially when they migrate from Android or iOS platform. I really am interested in seeing if they end up liking Windows Phone better than Android or even iOS.

Frankly speaking, from what I see… the points people raise FOR Windows Phone are on the same lines as the points raised for Apple iOS. Except that Windows Phone devices are sort of affordable which means that more people are likely to go for them. in the end, Windows Phone has the same problems that Apple iOS has.

Fine, I am a Google fanboy. But my preference for Android is more related to the flexibility it offers me (Third party keyboards? Third party browsers? Simple apps like India Against Spam which I doubt is possible on Windows Phone platform). Of course, the fact that I am tied to Google ecosystem also makes it a much better user experience for me. Trust me, I hate the fact that Google is not making Metro apps. I do not care if they make apps for Windows Phone or not but I really want them to make Metro apps (Google Drive, Google Music and so on).

Peace.
