Max, I would suggest you and other users of Hutch (Mumbai) to write a email to Nodal officer of Hutch complaining about calls from Hutch (Mumbai) to Hutch (Maharashtra) not being charged as local as per TRAI guidelines. You can also write in that email that you would be complaining to TRAI about Hutch if this issue is not resolved.

More people mail him, more chances of getting him to act!

Mail him at: [email protected]

I'm waiting one more day for the CC to revert back to me. I think they did revert to me today but I wasn't in a position to take their call. Let me know what Anthony has to say? I'll call him tomorrow if I have the time and see what he has to say regarding the rates! My bill is f******* inflated this month because of these stupid rates!

The CC did call me and was whining that BPL guys are still in control of the tarrifs hence I am being charged 1.69 instead of 50p. This is amazing. WTF? What kind of absolute madness is this? How am i concerned with what internal problems does Hutch / BPL have? I just care about my tarriffs! AHs!

I got a one liner reply from CC on behalf of Anthony:

Thank you for your email dated 04/09/06 regarding Mumbai and Maharastra treated as different circles.

We request you, to kindly provide us with your contact number to assist you with your query.

Awaiting your response.

Warm regards,

Stupid people, nodal officer forwards his mails to CC, how cheap is that.

Maybe tomm I will get a call from CC and I expect them to say the same crap they told u. If they tell me the same thing I will write a letter to the
"Appellate Authority at Hutch".

Hutch is absolutely useless. I tried calling up the Appellate officer Harit Nagpal. But they just wont pick up the phone. Once they did and they immediately disconnected my line!I am now thinking of moving to pehredar, TRAI and eventually to consumer court.

Hi Max,

Since I did not get a response from Nodal officer I wrote an email to Appellate Authority at Hutch telling them that if a proper response is not given in 10 working days, I would file a case with consumer court. Today I got a call from that department:
This is what they said:

All calls to Maharashtra and Goa are charged at local rates (i.e 1.99 for prepaid). But on promotional offers given, hutch has no restrictions on fixing charges made to any phone. So since its a Promotional offer Hutch deserves the right to fix the charges and limit the promotion to only Hutch Mumbai numbers and charge normal rates to Hutch Maharashta numbers.

So this female was very smart in saying that we are following all directives by TRAI and treating all calls to Maharashtra and Goa as local calls but Hutch deserves the right to govern charges on additional promotional offers.

Then I inquired about why sms is charged at Rs.2 (which is a charge for National Sms) instead of charging 1.50 (for prepaid) when Maharashtra and Mumbai are one circle? This is what she said:

TRAI order on Maharashtra and Mumbai to be treated as one circle only specifies about calls to be treated as local calls, the order does not say anything about sms to be treated as local. She suggested that I can write to TRAI and seek clarification on sms to be treated as local and if we at Hutch receive any such directive by TRAI we will surely abide by it as we always abide by all directives of TRAI and exhibit fair play and good service to our customers.

This female who called and spoke to me was definitely not a call center employee but someone from the management because she was well prepared to answer me and also had the TRAI directive and guidelines handy as she read it out to me when I raised the issue of sms.

So no use of taking the issue to anywhere else like the consumer court etc because they will surely win the case as she proved me that Hutch is not going against any guidelines set by TRAI. :(

Excuse me dear. Thats for prepaid subscribers. I am not a prepaid subscriber. I am a postpaid subscriber. For postpaid subscribers, that 50p scheme is NOT a promotional offer. It's a regular offer. I'm going to write to the appellate officer as soon as i have some free time :P Meanwhile Hutch is still ripping off customers. BTW did you get her name and number? I wanna talk with her as well...Edit: FYI, Hutch charges local SMS rates for the post paid subscribers.

As far as I remember u are on FV 299 plan and on Hutch site(http://hutch.in/postpaid/talk_plans_mum.asp) it says 0.5 to Local Hutch phones and to mobile phones in Maharashtra & Goa (except Cellone) is 1.69 so like she said Hutch Mumbai and Hutch Maharashtra are not one.

But anyways I suggest you write a strong worded email to Appelate authority threatening them to take legal action if issue is not resolved in 7 working days and they will surely call u after 4-5 days. All the Best... :P

U lucky guy u are charged local sms rates to maharashtra mobile, how much do they charge to hutch maharashtra sms, 50p or 1?
