SDSL means you have equivalent amount of bw to upload. It's generally more expensive than ADSL (in the US). Telcos prefer ppl consume/downlaod rather than upload. It's usually the commerical sites that can afford SDSL and ADSL for the rest of the little people.

Bugatti-

i have a friend in oz that pays $150 AU for a 512/512 line (in Adelaide)and gets shaped after he crosses 30GBs/month. Yay Telstra. That's pricey if you ask me and he sure as hell is looking for the best options out there. So not sure what to hink about 8mbit.

UK does not have great bandwidth last i heard, its possible things have improved but never underestimate BT to cock things up.

It's early days for FTTP in the US, lets see how it turns out. I'm aware on the east coast Verizon is aggresively doing it. They also have wierd plans on servers etc. According to the server means biz account not home. Yah they are giving u lots of bw, lets see how much they let u upload eh !

I agree other countries you mention have it sweet.

lol...i know that bud about ADSL and SDSL...and yes, in MTNL they give us SDSL ;) and yes, u may not beleive it, but when i use torrents in BitComet, my uploads have reached till 65 kBps...though when i was monitoring it...i don't monitor the whole time, u know

blr_p: go to whirlpool.net.au , its got all the news about broadband in australia.
iinet users get 12mbit/1mbit dsl and internode users get 25mbit/1mbit although bandwidth is limited. http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc-isp.cfm?id=15&s=2 and http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc-isp.cfm?id=9&s=6 . There are more plans and isp's to look through.

Telstra in Australia is like the BT of UK. They will not change unless forced to.

From the above URL

Although BT has doubled the speed of the no frills package (2Mbits/s, it has kept the its monthly usage limit at 1 gig.

Guess Datone customers dont have to feel so bad after all ...lol

*EDIT*
Looked at some more articles in the register and i think its a typo. It was reduced from 30GB to 15Gb. So ppl were not too amused they could reach thier quota in half the time.
