I saw something else in a place of UTVi - Try switching onto Channel No. 485 and it shows in a menu UTVi (and it was UTVi earlier) but on-screen it shows some other channel (I dont know which language it is but shows some other south regional channel there) What a mess! I saw today's local newspaper (Gujarat Samachar) and other (TOI) - both have a full page BIG TV color advertisement. No. 485 shows actual channel in a quick menu and actually displays some other channel on-screen. They do such funny things even after launch!

well lets not forget that dth, iptv,or any other broadcasting platform will never match dvd quality,if u download HD videos transmissions from BBC HD like the programme planet earth and compare that to the BLUE RAY version of the same there is a lot of difference because the bbc hd transmits at around 6mbps of video versus blue ray which is around 20mbps.

well not all dvd 9 uses the entire 8.5 gb of data i happen to have a one genuine dual layer FIFTH ELEMENT DVD but only 70% of the space is used that includes bonus hidden content.

so we can conclude that these dth and other provides when they say dvd quality they only mean the resolution ,i have said before that when i saw spider man2 in big tv pay per view ch the quality was about 75% good of the 4.5gb pirated spiderman 2 played via xbox.

the reason i feel big tv is better is because of the component out .

Well when the DTH providers say DVD quality picture they don't mean the data transmission rate, yes of course i understand that the image quality is ultimately dependent on the data transmission rate also, but DVD quality means 480p which is in other words a resolution of 852 x 480 pixels.
So then HD picture quality means either 720p, 1080p or even 1080i in some cases.
So again 720p = 1,280 x 720 pixels
1080p = 1,920 x 1,080 pixels
& 1080i just means a 720p is upscaled to 1080i

well dvd in ntsc region is 480p i.e 720x480 pixles that includes the pirated dvd,but origional pal dvd have a resolution of 720x576.

now 852x480 pixels is called extended definition,it is between standard definition and high definition.

Very true, i was referring to the best resolution of the particular standard. i.e the best 480p DTH providers can offer...

nonono
720x576 for PAL and 720x480 for NTSC. (maybe the other way round)
nothing to do about pirated DVDs or orginal DVDs

well the reason i have said that is bcause as of now i havent seen a pirated english movie that has been pirated from indian release.

On BIG TV:
My CRT is showing extreme pixellation then i can imagine how worse it would be on LCDs!!!

Switch to any sports channel which is running a cricket match and when camera goes on to a striking batsman just look at the black side screen (behind wicket keeper) and you will get to see how worse pixellations are!!!

I didnt expect such a bad pixellation issue on a private (DTH) dish!!!
