have you seen the quality of the display? it's fantastic. it is more about the ppi than the resolution. as for batteries. looking at how slim these devices are, i think they are doing a very good job with the technologies available to them. of course, no one knows why we cannot have slightly thicker devices if it means having a device with larger batteries. motorola tries to offer an alternative with MAXX variants. other companies have been ignoring this. more of an issue with devices with non-removable batteries.

Still I feel the battery department should be seriously looked into. I really miss those Nokia days when I had to charge it only once every three days.

Let me give an elaborate response then! Majority of these companies are not into developing new technologies. I imagine almost all of the components are outsourced from other manufacturers who are developing the new technologies. I mean one of the company developed a 5 inch display with 1080p resolution. It was in the new few months ago and today we are seeing this display being used by multiple companies including Sony and ZTE. They did not develop this display. They just used it in their products. Now, it is not like the companies behind the battery technologies are sitting idle. They are working on creating newer technologies. I keep reading about fuel cell being used to develop the next generation of batteries. They would arrive eventually in the market. But right now, the technologies which are proven and are available in mass quantity is what these companies have access to. So the only option they have is to fit a larger sized battery. Larger display devices have more space for a larger battery so they tend to give a longer battery backup. But the larger display also consume more power so the end result is not that spectacular. The other option is to have thicker devices which is the confusing part. All of these companies try to out-do one another with the claims of the thinnest smartphone in the market and so on. I do not see the charm. If I can have a device 10mm thick instead of 8mm thick but has a larger battery, I had prefer it. But nope. We are reaching a stage where some of these models are just 6.5mm in thickness! Why did Apple launched the iPhone with a non-removable back? One of the core reasons is that it allowed them to fit a larger battery. And more and more companies are adopting the same method to try to fit the largest battery they can fit in the space they have. Looking at how many technologies these companies manage to fit in such a compact device, I think it is rather impressive that these devices can last for as long as they do already! I mean compare the size of the battery in older Nokia phones and the batteries in current generation phones. The size is slightly larger but the capabilities you get from a modern smartphone is astonishing. And most of them are able to last you a complete day of moderate usage! Compare that to budget segment laptops that mostly come with battery backup of 3-4 hours maximum.

Sony and HTC is coming with solid build phones, no denial of thatEven xperia go and solar which are kinda mid variant phones have a very decent build quality unlike Samsung Samsung is winning with mass production and pricing. They have released 37 smart phones in 2012 alone in low, mid and high variants

frankly speaking xperia z is perhaps the first time Sony has a flagship phone which is better than anything from htc and samsung. samsung is unlikely to launch Galaxy s 4 for another couple of months. sony has a 2-3 month advantage with xperia z to capitalize from the situation and create a mark. samsung with their galaxy s and note series have created a major problem for themselves. they update these phones once a year which is just not enough considering the pace of development in the android ecosystem. htc on the other hand can launch a new flagship device. i believe dna/deluxe is currently their best which is comparable to xperia z?

What is the meaning of a built quality for you? Why you think samsung built quality is not good? Note 2 or s 3 when fallen don't get serious damage even without cover, some scratches on the edges is expected though

let me tell you from my experience... here are the four android devices i have owned... google nexus one from htcgoogle nexus s from samsung htc one x Samsung Galaxy nexus n1 and 1x had a solid build quality compared to the two samsung models. the feel in hand. the quality of plastic used in the body. there is simply no comparison. you have to own a htc device to see what solid build quality is :)
