Free upgrade to mpeg4 box done in mumbai; the subscriber had tamil package. Exchange done the same day of call.

So TS is targeting to swap STB's of the ROI customers who are using Tamil & Telegu as their regional pack.....

Ok got the sms regarding the upgrade yesterday. Called them up today and they sent me a work order no via SMS in return.
Apparently someone was to visit today at 5:30pm for the exchange but no one called up nor turned up! Lets see if someone
turns up tommorrow morning. A friend was promised an exchange on the same day (tamil pack) but no one has turned up
in 5 days.
Apparently the Kannada channels move to Mpeg-4 on 2nd September 2013.
So it's not only the Tamilnadu & Kerala customers getting the upgrades.

New receivers are given on the base of regional package one has. I got mine earlier as I had Malayalam as my secondary regional package.
I'd to take the receiver to their local office in order to get replacement, they were finding it difficult to replace hundreds before deadline. I live in a rural area.

From today they have moved Asianet News & Kiran TV (2 Malayalam Channels) to MPEG 4 transmission...

Update. Got the box yesterday afternoon (i.e. within the 24 hour deadline).
I live in a major city hence the speedy upgrade I guess. And am an old customer to boot (circa 2006).
The new box is smaller than the older one but uses the same power supply and remote. The "engineer" only came with
the box in a plastic bag with a work order for me to sign.
Took a while to pair the card with the new box. I made him wait till the channels worked. The card doesn't go fully inside
the box like it did in the old one.
Looks good so far. Box is a little slower than the previous one in booting and changing channels.
