The Ridiculous Airtel Broadband Plans

So they would only provide cheap service if there is good competition.

I hope all of Bangalore is covered by those cheaper ISPs, otherwise we may start seeing street specific plans. :)

dont give them ideas.....

Transonic 1250 - Rs. 1250/- for 80 GB @8mbps - Bangalore, Karnataka. OMG! That's a great plan.

That s because of ACT & Hathway..
Should say thanks to them..
Time for Bsnl to change their plans again..
Ah they are gonna take years..

One thing i don't understand about airtel is why the hell they are giving the post FUP and reducing it directly to 256Kbps, are we still living in the stone age damn it.:crazy1:

Be thankful. In some countries your speed would get reduced to 64k after you hit the FUP.

Oh, man. Bummer. Maybe I should download that here, stuff it on a flash-drive, walk from Mumbai to Gurgaon and see which gets there faster.

But their FUP's would be way higher right mgcarley?and which country lol?

Not necessarily. In particular I refer to my home country and it's neighbour (NZ and Australia, respectively), where most FUPs are in the vicinity of 10-60GB.

That being said, recently (as in, in the last few months) higher packages have become available - before that, like India, it was very difficult to get much more than 150GB, but now some ISPs are offering 300-1000GB for those who want to pay for it (about Rs15k or so if I'm not mistaken)... in 2010 I was looking for a plan which had about 500GB of usage and that was going to set me back at that time around NZ$800 (Rs36k or so).

In Australia higher caps have been available for a couple of years now (up to 1000GB) and are priced at around Rs6k or so.

(All of this is delivered on full-speed ADSL where the only limiting factor is the equipment and distance from the exchange - no difference in price also whether you're connected to an old DSLAM or a new one capable of ADSL2+ or better).

It's my sincere hope that Airtel does away with the speed differences and simply charges for data (or an FUP as the case may be... in either case, if you don't purchase enough data to suit your usage, whose fault is that?)... and if it does that at a reasonable price, I would imagine that people would complain less.

mhm that screenshot was from the oatmeal. image is linked to the comic.

Well, given by what people have said about Airtel's throttling, including yourself... the offer still stands :D

lol. i manage to manage my fup limits just fine :D i usually finish off my last GB data on the last day of the billing cycle :)

Perhaps, but:

1. Not everybody is so diligent; and
2. I know very well that you want more data ;)
