The Ridiculous Airtel Broadband Plans

Today, I got info (email) from Airtel that there's no Rapid 150 in the market. But there's Rapid 175 only. /me is confused.I'm also tempted to go for this plan considering the new tariff for Turbo 150 (current plan) is Rs. 2250. Rapid 175 offers double the speed, 25GB more data and 1000 free local minutes and a post-FUP speed of 512k for Rs. 349 extra. The price of 20GB on smartbytes is Rs.799.Turbo 150@4 mbps = Rs.15 per GBRapid 175@8mbps = Rs.14.85 per GBAny opinion/advise?

Eventually it is a decision based on necessity and affordability. You know best about what your needs are and how much you can afford.

yeah. that's why i am seeking information from airtel if i can get rapid 175 plan. i am already paying around 2500 to airtel. another couple of hundred would not matter much. 25GB extra data would come handy as well.

@genie: The more the merrier for me. Price is the only constraint. But it's not like my current plan - Turbo 150 - is cheap. I was also under Rs.2499 2mbps plan until last year. I'm trying to convince myself that the extra Rs.349 (Rs.392 including taxes) is worth the extra benefits that Rapid 175 offers over Turbo 150.

well i am interested because they are at least offering additional bandwidth. charging a premium for speed is stupidity but bundling some additional data makes it a decent purchase. much better than buying extra GBs through SmartBytes.

Yep. Rapid 175 is way better than the initial Rapid 150 plan they offered.I'll never support smartbytes by buying extra gigs. I'd rather limit my needs than buying from smartbytes.

Plus don't forget about irritating page forwards after you consume 80%. So you should ideally look at 80% of your FUP than total FUP.

If you're saying that I should look to use only 80% of high speed data...No, I can't afford to do that. In Turbo 150, 20% means 30GB! In Rapid 175, 20% means 35Gb! I'll always use every byte of the high speed data if not more. :D

well i usually avoid getting into the 20%. manage to save it for the last 2-3 days. last month i had 22GB left with 2 days left. worked out well. saw the redirection like 3-4 times during that period.

BTW, I was told today that they have gone back to billing on a pro-rata basis. No need to wait for the migration till the beginning of the next cycle.
