The Ridiculous Airtel Broadband Plans

i guess. mathew said that such phones would probably be powered by voip technology and not the old telephony technology or whatever.

My doubts are
1) Are there any plans which give free voice benefits both for local & std
2) This free voice usage is applicable to only airtel or all operators
3) And they have mentioned they will change the plan from my existing 2mbps 10 GB unlimted to this one on the next billing cycle which is 20 days away.
Is there a way can I change it to new plan ASAP.

Thanks a lot in advance

1. you would have to check out the tariff plans for your city i guess.
2. no idea. i believe it should be across all networks.
3. that is what they have been doing for a while now though some users say that they have been able to get the new plan faster. things get complicated when you change plan with a different FUP limit. i am not sure how that can be implemented on a pro-rata basis.

I do not know about points 1 & 2.
3. They said the next billing cycle? Ask them again. I asked for a plan change 2 weeks into my billing cycle. It took 3 working days for me to get my new plan & they said that they would charge me on a pro-rata basis.

I'm from a different circle, so this might be factor. Maybe another user from Bangalore can clarify this?

i can understand how they can charge on the basis of pro-rata basis. but what do they for data? i mean i could be on a 30GB plan and apply for a plan after consuming all the 30GB data in it. and then i apply for a 175GB plan. they can charge me for the new plan based on the remaining days in the month. but data? do they deduct 30GB from the prorata data for the remaining period? looks too complicated to me :D what if i change from 175GB to a 30GB plan after consuming 175GB? :D

I see what you mean.My experience was strange. My change was from 4mbps (75GB) to 8mbps (75GB).The day they changed my plan, they reset the data counter on the smartbytes page to 75GB. It was like as if I never used the data! So, you might get that 30GB after all!!

awesome :Dalso. what prompted you to switch from 4mbps to 8mbps plan if the new plan was expensive in nature? what gains do you get from this doubling of speeds?

Since technically the plan is an unlimited plan, just with a FUP, I doubt they will prorate the data, they'll only prorate the monthly rental (after all, you cannot really prorate unlimited)

On an explicit data based plan they will however prorate the data as well.

Atleast thats how Beam does it

awesome :D

No gains except bragging rights. Simple. I have an embarassing problem - I like to burn money on unnecessary things, especially tech! LOL!
4 mbps was actually OK for me. But I just wanted to see what 8mbps felt like in my own home.

uberjon, would you mind PMing me where you are in Chennai? I'll understand if you do not want to reveal it.I am asking because they won't migrate me to 8mbps. :-(

That's a shame. What is your attainable line rate? Can you check it?

I know someone who used to get 4 mbps, but after he moved to a new place (which was 1 km away from his old place), he could only get 2mbps.

PM sent.
