The Ridiculous Airtel Broadband Plans

They have to pay money to management committie for getting in the apartment
umm nope. Beam guys stuck a deal with my apartments where they pay just 50bucks per month for first year and 100rs for 5years inexchange for using place on terrace for box. Actually they said that they would provide net half the cost of my plan if i convinced my apartment committe to let them install boxs in terrace.

Potential good news for Airtel users looking for a speed upgrade.
Airtel is slowly upgrading their DSLAMs. I asked for a upgrade on Sunday night again &, wonder of wonders, they upgraded me (8mbps to 16 mbps) today. They rejected my request a few months ago.

Unfortunately, my pings have increased 3x.
My speedtest pings used to be in single digits. Also, pings to google used to take me 6 to 8 ms. Now it's around 24-26ms.
Anyway, after a month or do, I'll probably downgrade to 4mbps to save a few paisa. Let's see.

Until last month, 8mbps was not feasible for my connection. Two weeks back, I got a call from Airtel and was offered 8mbps (Rapid 175) plan. I told them to call me after Deepavali but they didn't call me again. For now, I'm satisfied with Turbo 150 plan but I think the feasibility of 8mbps is available for me any time I wish to migrate.

No. They are offering faster speeds like 8/16 MBPS at higher costs.

Wow this really sucks. I have to pay 2k for 8mbps and a ****ing 80gb fup? Might as well burn the 2k myself...what a pathetic isp. Wait im already paying almost 2k for a 75gb fup and 4mbps... ShameThen again most people who use internet in india are uncles and auntys who only need 256 kbps to talk to their relatives in the us. I am truly ashamed to live here. There is no progress.

Afraid I beat him to it. That's why I originally moved to Japan nearly 12 years ago and Europe nearly 8 years ago: better broadband (8mbit/s unlimited in 2001 for what was then US$65).
