@tatyasky what about new connection? What about users like me who want 1 Gig at such awesome prices 🥺. Can I too do it? Like taking 500 Mbps connection for 1 month and saying the same upgrade thing?

@tatyasky thanks for the comparison bro. Airtel has always been a rip off. I keep getting calls from the Airtel morons asking me to upgrade because they 'upgraded' their networks which is a load of BS. I rudely tell them about my experience and tell em to take a hike.

About TPBB, I may opt for it let me see. I had upgraded exactly 1 year back and wasn't able to get anywhere close to 900 or over...just like Airtel. So far 300 x 2 lines is working well for me. Infact I renewed my connection just 2 days back for 3 months. Let me think but thanks for sharing your thoughts dude.

@havoc I advise you following:

1. First call up their customer care and enquire if 1 Gbps plan feasibility is there in your area. This is really important to know as not all areas have 1 Gbps availability. If yes then proceed to 2nd point.
2. Take their 500 Mbps plan for 1 month. Use it for 3-4 days. Just to get an idea of how the connection works at your place.
3. Call them at the end of 4th day to upgrade to 1 Gbps plan and they will offer you 20% discount.

@Chip, take 1 month plan only to try it out but each time you have to downgrade back to 500 Mbps to avail 1 Gbps offer. But once you are sure that your area is upgraded, go ahead with yearly 1 Gbps plan.

Dude, are you ok with paying upfront for a year??

Thanks @tatyasky
I have already done the 1st thing and they said it's feasible. Also their OLT is near my house which is next to my friend's house so that's good.
Also is plan change possible in between? Like if I'm on 500 Mbps and I need to change it to 1 Gbps on 4th day can they change it? Or it can be changed only after expiry?

Dude, are you ok with paying upfront for a year??
TataPlay Fiber also have some Credit Card EMI offer where they charge you monthly. But check that out with customer care.

@havoc
Yes plan change can be done on any day of the month. If you change on 4th day and you have recharged for 1 month, then you will get credit of 26 days back into your account and the customer care will calculate the amount you pay by deducting that credit.

It's not the EMI offer worries me but paying upfront for more than 3-6 months at a stretch. Thing is after last year's experience where I had to downgrade both Airtel and TPBB back to 300, I really hesitate to pay up for 1 year.

Last year they said 1 Gb was feasible but it didn't perform as promised.

Yes proceed with caution when it comes to 1 Gbps plan. My plan has changed to 1 Gbps but Download/Upload speed is still 500 Mbps. Now my dreaded fight with customer care begins. CC guy already called me just now and said that it's YOU and only YOU who is at fault as speed upgrade is done from their end. I rebooted the router multiple times. I have escalated the issue. This same fight happened last time and they reluctantly increased my speed to 1 Gbps after 4-5 days as if doing some favour.

They were so fast and not even 1 second was wasted when I changed plan from 1 Gbps to 500 Mbps. The speed reduced the second plan change started reflecting in the app. But now they behave as if Tata Inc will go bankrupt if they increase speed to 1 Gbps by mistake (Even if that is per plan which I have paid fully)

So you faced the same prob! These guys want extra money with false promises of 1Gbps speeds. They brought their laptop and said we can only test on this. To their credit it showed 900 mbps but only on a command line speed test. But connecting it directly to my desktop machine (not a wimp by a long shot and the current one is even beefier) via PPPoE gave no more than 500 just like you faced. They blamed the LAN cable, a CAT6 D-Link and my network card a 1 Gig Broadcom not a Realtek.. So I was like WTF...their speed is only guaranteed and demoed using their laptop, their patch cable etc. No guarantees about speeds on your gear.

Sadly my own laptop had died and couldnt be used for a parallel check. The replacement laptop that I purchased later in '21 has no LAN ports. SMH!

Airtel's tech sneakily told me last year to go back to 300 Mbps as Airtel wasn't ever going to get to 1 Gbps. I did so..until July this year when they again pestered me for an upgrade.....which I agreed to. It took the idiots several days to change plan and the outcome was disappointing all over again i.e. no more than 500-600 Mbps. I am back to 300 within 10 days (had to pay Rs 1800!!) and no amount of begging me will make me upgrade Airtel. They tried again just few days back and I had to yell at the guy and tell him to stop cheating. 4.7K a month for non performant connection. No way man!

A guy from NOC called me again and said he will see what he can do. They have to change speed profile at multiple places and extremely higher up the management has the authority to change plan speed to 1 Gbps. Mostly I believe Ratan Tata himself presses the 1 Gbps button.

I think hardly anyone takes 1 Gbps plan and walks the bleeding edge. It is unfair to be treated like garbage after paying 1 yr in advance for top tier plan. lol. :p
