I think ur question is technically incorrect. But, i wud give u the right info, which shud solve ur query.......SD Channels are STRETCHED to 16:9 resolution. So originally, although they are in 4:3, but they are stretched to 16:9. And if u dont like that stretching, U HAVE THE OPTION, to view it in 4:3. So on ur wide screen TV, u wud see black bars to left & right of ur screen.Next, on HDMI cable.....yes it wud obviously look better than the A/V cable. Just to give u a simple example.......if u have 2 watches - one which has the 3 hands in its dial, and the other has exact numbers in it, wudnt u obviously like the watch with exact numbers in it? Thats the difference between analog A/V cable & the Digital HDMI cable.

So that option was to choose between stretched full screen picture or non stretched picture with vertical black bars on both sides. My TV has already got a similar option to specify the aspect ratio. ie; if you want stretched full screen then select 16:9 or the original non stretched one then select 4:3. So basically both are same.

Then why do they advertise that HD-DVR supports 16:9 aspect ratio? HD channels are already 16:9.

Also you said in a post in this thread that serials that were aired cinemascope with black bars on top and bottom were now full screen. If the picture is stretched then how come those black bars are gone? Or were you saying about HD channel?(Refer post #34)

yeah, most TVs have that option these days. And about advertising 16:9.....well a small component is to actually inform many consumers who arent aware, and major chunk is for just publicity!

Can u tell me how do u connect ur whole setup??
My setup is pretty simple... The D2H is connected to my Denon A/V reciever via HDMI... And another HDMI cable runs from the A/V reciever to the LCD HDTV.

Also I was told by one Videocon guy today, that the HD box has an S/PDIF output, and if I connect an S/PDIF cable to the reciever from there, then I should get 5.1 ch audio.... Got to try this and see!

Yes, do try and share SPDIF experience. We are awaiting since long as no one have tried it till now.

Whats that A/V receiver of Denon? Thats seems a new gadget which is standing in between TV & STB. And still, how do u connect TV to speakers, was what i wanted to know.Anyways, since u r trying out S/PDIF, u carry on with it. Many people have found that to b working nicely.

As far i know that u can connect all ur external devices to denon and through it u can connect it to tv, even the 5.1 will be connected to denon.

Ok, so its something like central receiver before the TV, and may be only 1 connection between TV & the A/V box. I think he must be having a wall mount of his TV, which is why he is having this type of setup.

this ll be better useful when u have multiple devices like stb, bluray player, ht, media player etc

Thats fine, but those ports are directly available on TVs these days. I have 3 HDMI, 2 Component, 1 RGB, 2-3 A/V & 1 Analog cable. That is for a model that was being produced in end of 2009. So ports shudnt be an issue, unless u have wall-mounted.
