 Are you kddin me, MTNL filing a case , they just keep sending you bills, once in a while you'll get a letter, nothing more than that, no call nothing. They don;t care they have much to worry then to go behind people asking to get their bills cleared out.Even I had my MTNL landline dosconnected last year, ofcourse not regarding non payment of bills, we were just frustrated with the service and so got ourselves the wireless Tata phones, so I'm in the exact same state Gaurav is in , getting a new MTNL connection would really cost a lot Rs : 738.34 (590 + 80 Modem rental + 10% Service Tax + 0.2% Educational Cess) + Phone rental, thats around 1000 buks .
The MTNL 590 NU has a drawback of switch on (the Router) at 00 hours and switch off at 08 hours. There may be a reduction in speed if the telephone lines are not clear. In rains it is more likely for downtime and dependance on the local telephone mechanic then the call center. MTNL NU may be right for those people who have extremely heavy use....torrents or file shares of gbs of download at less price. People who have moderate downloads like 200 MB or less can go for 128 kbps of sify for 1 month. MTNL has many configurations unlike sify.
Sify's uptime is 30%-50 % lower than the MTNL dial-up i used to have, its servers are always trashy, sometimes DNS-sometimes SAM, sometimes proxy server. Its service is worse than a public sector service provider's :-|. And on top of this now we get to hear about water dripping from Sify's wires, man is this an ISP or what I would have chucked it and gone for MTNL Triband if the phone lines were laid in my neighbourhood.
