Windows Phone 7.8 Updates

I have used WP7.5 for some time and got keen interest in platform. Next phone will either be WP8 or BB10.

Are there any proper backup solutions for WP (offline) so that one can backup texts, apps+games, their data and other crucial stuff and after flashing new ROM, ready to go once restored old stuff?

And I read just now that 7.8 update is for preproduction units for a time being. Everyone else will get it by early next year or can flash this ROM unofficially.

What data? So far I can backup contacts and Calendar in my Windows Live (Outlook) account.
Unfortunately for Apps installed and SMS, I dont know how to backup

That is not a good thing if backup is so difficult on WP7.x I mean backup of SMS, apps and games data. But good thing is that from what I know, WP8 has proper backup mechanism integrated in OS and can backup SMS, apps, settings etc, can store it on skydrive for later retriever etc. convenient while moving from one WP to another or while flashing ROM.

Thanks. But that is for fully unlocked phone or with custom ROM I guess. I am not using any custom ROM on my Omnia W.

Yes that is why it didnt worked for me as well

btw Nokia CC has confirmed 7.8 update can be done via Nokia Care Center

Oh! thats great. Though I really doubt that Nokia Care Center could really help in upgrade. I guess better wait till 1st/2nd week of Jan to check if update are available via Zune.
