ACT is expanding there, stay calm within 1 r 2 months they should be there.

hopefully... can i get beam tariffs in ACT service? Cos Beam is the one providing ACT indirectly.

NO ur wrong, ACT has actually first invested in Beam.

I just got my ACT connection activated this afternoon and wanted to share my experience with y'all. After the recent tariff hike from Airtel (:anger3:) I decided to give other ISPs a try, if only as a form of silent protest. I've been lurking on this thread for a while now and having read all the negative reviews here I was skeptical about ACT, but eventually decided to take the plunge last week.

Here's a rough timeline of events:-

[*] Friday, 10th August - Called CC for general inquiry (and to get an idea of what I was getting into!). Satisfied, I contacted ACT through their website to express interest.
[*] Saturday, 11th August -- Got a message asking me to keep documents ready. Their rep visited me that very evening and collected the stuff.
[*] Monday, 13th August -- Got a verification call
[*] Tuesday, 14th August - Got several calls from their reps who seemed eager to finish installation asap. Me being at work they couldn't complete the entire setup but said they'll 'come tomorrow'
[*] Thursday afternoon, 16th August -
Two of their technicians arrived and activated my account. Overall I was impressed with their conduct and technical know-who. The CC lady who did the final verification seemed confident and competent as well. Finally setup was done and speedtest revealed blazing fast speeds!
[*] Thursday evening, 16th August -
All of a sudden my internet stops working! :crying: Instantly recollecting the unfavorable reviews on this thread I thought to myself "WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO!", while glad at the same time that I'd planned to retain my Airtel connection for a month at least and not disconnect until I was convinced ACT was reliable.

I called their CC and all lines were busy. Luckily I managed to find an alternate CC number where they took my complaint. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call within 5 minutes saying someone was on the way! Within another 5 minutes their technician arrived and tinkered with the monstrous contraption they've installed outside my house and Lo behold, my net was back! :clapping:
[/list]
The Verdict: So far so good. Obviously I'll need to wait a bit longer to be sure.

I'll post updates on my experience at regular intervals. Moderator - would there be any objection to me creating a new thread for that purpose?

Thanks all for reading this looong post. :)

Sigh - more issues :( I made the mistake of not checking my ACT connection all day today (was on Airtel to use up what little FUP remains) and when I plugged my ACT line in just out of curiosity I was NOT pleased to note that I was unable to login to the network - a problem reported earlier by others in this thread as well. My auth credentials are obviously correct but for what it's worth I used ACT's "retrieve password" option hoping that would help. I got an SMS seconds later. Great, right? Well, not exactly - the SMS was a giant wall of JAXRPC (Java) stack trace instead of the password! So somewhere on ACT's servers some fragile code crashes each time a customer attempts password retrieval; this crash message is neatly wrapped into an SMS and sent to the customer!. This would be hilarious if only it weren't happening to me! :|

I've switched my Airtel line back on now and will probably use it for the rest of the night. If my ACT connection continues to be down in the morning their CC is going to get an earful from me.

UPDATE:- My ACT line is working again :encouragement:

I'm not exactly an early riser (far from it) but I got up this morning just to catch their CC as soon as they open (07:30 AM). Fortunately the issue was resolved even before I called them. They acknowledged what I experienced last night as some 'server issue' that purportedly affected several customers not just me.

I'm heading back to bed to catch up on my lost sleep now, hopefully their network doesn't go down by the time I get up again!!! :)

For the first look 10MBPS speed and cheap rates of ACT broadband look very attractive and many peoples go for it just looking these two points. BUT IT IS NOT AT ALL RELIABLE. This is what i experience in 2 occasions. 2 months back we got ACT broadband for Rs. 1299/- per month plan for our office. It was 10MBPS speed with FUP of 75GB(after crossing 75GB speed will be 2MBPS). Every one was satisfied with speed. But one day we lost internet connectivity, customer support told us that there is a fiber cut and it will be repaired in 4 working hours. After lots of calls(it takes 10-15 minutes to reach a customer care executive at their number 42840000) and followups connections was restored after 2 DAYS. Once again there is an outage yesterday and it took one full day to restore the connection. The customer support team at ACT is a bunch of useless peoples. The guy comes to the site for checking the connectivity doesn't know how to configure a router. Their tech support peoples say same dialogues like i will check with back-end peoples and get back to you or this will be resolved in next 4 working hours......

so if you are planning to get ACT BB for your office please don't do that mistake, otherwise after few days you will be busy in posting a review like me.

The speed what they are giving is really good, but their service is not at all RELIABLE. So we are discontinuing ACT BB and will find a reliable ISP even if it is costly and slow than ACT.

Looking at the disgruntled post below my earlier report, feels like it's time to post an update:-

My ACT connection has been awesome this week. Blazing speeds and not a single outage (well almost not - there was an instance when I couldn't log-in, but that fixed itself within a minute. I was already on the phone with CC By then and they advised my to use ipconfig /release then /renew. Meh.... but the person on the phone was courteous and competent, the latter of which I'm used to with Airtel but the former being a decidedly rare quality)

I really hope ACT keeps this up, I'm tempted to surrender my Airtel connection even before the 1 month vetting period that I'd initially planned for. ACT is literally my only hope against the malicious clutches of Airtel right now, so dear ACT, please don't screw up! :grumpy: Impress me with your service as you have the past two weeks and I'll be one loyal customer for a long long time. (Well - or at least until you implement some hare-brained tariff hike scheme like Airtel)

Humm using Home planns for OFFICE? This is crime
U must take a BUSINESS plan from ACT which they will promise uptime. Slicing fiber is not like childs like we usually do to join the BSNL line.
Regards,

well i do not really have the right to complain about downtime affecting my business because in reality i am misusing a connection focus on home consumers for business purposes. airtel has in fact warned me that using personal connections for businesses is not allowed. they do not really have a valid say in this but i would really like to see SLA for home connections as well.

Latest update on my journey with ACT:-

* I've (finally) called Airtel Customer Care and surrendered my connection!
* An obvious corollary of the first statement - my ACT connection has been behaving really well; so well that it gave me the confidence to chuck my Airtel connection out! :)

With that out of the way I'd like to add some color on the HELL that Airtel  is putting me through for disconnecting:
* I told them that I was "leaving town" to make the exit call smoother and it was (relatively) smooth sailing on Day 1 at least.
* I had to go through two of their executives, who nagged me to no end on "But Sir! Why don't you transfer your connection to your friend or colleague?!!" and other such tripe.
* For the next 3 days - Airtel kept calling me once a day with the same pleas; and with a new person on the phone each time.
* Today was the last straw :angry (): I RAGED when yet another Airtel exec called me and said "Sir! I have an excellent new plan for you!". When I asked him if he knew why I had quit Airtel he said he didn't know and added "Please Sir - you can tell me now yourself No?". When I protested vociferously the coward hung up on me! So THAT's how they serve customers!

Apologies for the long rant, needless to say even if ACT turns out to be a dud I'm NEVER going back to Airtel again. I just hope they disconnect from my life on the day they promised.
